All UFAs Walk and No Trades

Created by: Anus_McLeod

Initial Creation Date: Apr. 24, 2024
Published: Apr. 24, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Keys to making this work:

1. They only buy a single UFA year of Mittelstadt in order to keep the AAV down.
2. MacDonald, who has played both forward and D for the Avs, comes back. This makes a 21-man roster more doable.

Personally, I'd rather move Colton and re-sign Drouin, but I don't know if that is in the cards. Drouin definitely stays if Landeskog can't return though.

be a shame to let trenin and duhaime go they round out the bottom nice with their physicality. I think you've got to move one of colton or girard regardless at this point though. The back end is very thin if there's one injury and i donno if ritchie will be ready for 3C duty in a hopefully deep playoff run

If the back end is thin (which I agree with), then how do you move Girard? Outside of getting an even more cost controlled young D who can play 20 min, that doesn't make sense to me. I could see replacing Manson easier than Girard, but that's tough too. I think they leave the D alone, aside from probably looking for a cheap UFA who wants to chase a Cup.

Colton is the only guy they can move to save money (imo), but I'm not sure that they will. Seems unlike them to move a guy so quickly after signing him.

well i mean i think you have to basically trade for retained players if you want more depth, hanifin and tanev are making less than 1.3 mil on their current teams. We also gotta hope that another guy who wants to win a cup who will play for cheap on the back end, i've had brodie in a couple of mine but i honestly don't watch toronto at all to know how much he will ask for.

Tbh Trenin is really the only one of the 'rentals' I'd have a true interest in keeping. I think someone is still going to get moved in the off season however, unless of course Landy is done.

Even if landeskog is done. You still need to trade a dmen. Girard is the most logical considering they have no physical dmen unless they trade manson and get a cheaper physical dmen.

George will be gone in offseason.

Why on Earth do they need to trade a defenseman? They already moved Byram. Can't imagine they're going to move Girard too.

You need cap space that's why.

If you wanna resign any UFA or RFA.
