Note: Reports prior to Sept 2023 were originally graded out of ten, and also included additional categories that have been merged into the current categories.
This likely results in the overall ratings prior to 2023 being decreased in comparison to reports since Sept 2023.

For an `Apples to Apples` comparison between players, we recommend only comparing reports before, or after, Sept 2023.
Results will average out accordingly as more data is accumulated.

Joseph has played to his identity this year for Ottawa. He's produced 10G -20A in 49GP Average TOI for the season has landed at 16:30 Used in all situations. Limited impact on the PP. Plays fast. Competes up and down the ice. Can create turnovers with his tenacity. Through 59GP Batherson has averaged 17:39 TOI and produced 21G - 24A 5G - 8A on the PP All of his ice time comes at even strength and the power-play. He doesn't have a role on the PK Big body who's difficult to defend around the crease and along the wall. When he boxes out opponents they have a tough time pushing him out of danger areas in the offensive zone. Great release. Can be slotted into the power-play net front or as the bumper. Has the ability to beat goalies from long-range. Shoots the puck hard and accurately. More physical overall this season. Credited with 75 hits and 27 shot blocks Overall - average / average plus defensively - (-7) defensively. Has stood in for 90 face-offs on the year - winning only 41% of his drawsFeb. 27, 2024Mar. 4, 2024

Logs over 21:00 TOI - Used in all situations Generally energetic / competitive / offensive play driver who's hard to defend in all areas of the ice. Through 59GP - 14G -42A (-6) Hasn't scored a goal on the PP in 23/24 - OG - 12A with the man advantage. Involved - credited with 82 hits and 32 shot blocks - 148 shots on goal He's involved in something every shift - but overall his offense has dropped off from last year - and much of it is due to lack of goal scoring success on the PP Last season he produced 10G - 18A on the PP alone.Feb. 27, 2024Mar. 4, 2024

An important player for Ottawa who has had a tough time remaining healthy. Play driver. Quick. Fast. Pushes opponents back when he hits the offensive blue line with a full head of steam. Used in all situations - Was averaging over 17 minutes per game TOI before going down with injury at the beginning of March Produced 16G - 14A with 5G and 7A coming on the PP Wins over 52% of his draws 2-way / speed forward who looks capable of producing even more offense but hasn't historically been an elite point producer.Feb. 27, 2024Mar. 4, 2024

Empties the tank every night. Averages around 19:00 TOI - Deployed at ES and PP - Rarely used on the PK Through 58GP - 26G-24A 7 goals on the PP Physical (198 hits) - Aggressive directing pucks on net (248 shots on goal) Leads by example. There are instances he could dial it back a bit and not get involved in every scrum - during the play and after the whistle - but it's part of his DNA and what makes him such a valuable young leader. When called upon he wins 54% of his draws Hard to defend along the wall and out front the net - especially on the PP -Feb. 27, 2024Mar. 4, 2024

P1
Chychrun has contributed offensively for the Senators. He produced 9G-22A in his first 59GP Continues to average north of 23 minutes per game TOI. All of his ice time comes at even strength and the power-play. Defensive detail ranges - his (-15) rating is the worst of any defenceman on the Sens roster. There are times, in games, he has difficulty timing his gaps and keeping opponents outside the dots in his zone. Best described as a '2-way D' who isn't shy about directing pucks on net in the offensive zone. He's been credited with 145 shots on goal and contributes offense on the power-play (4G-8A) Plenty strong - 50 hits - 107 shot blocks Excellent skater One more year on his current contract that's armed with a 10 team no trade clause. Affordable $4.6M Top pairing 'D' at even strength.Feb. 27, 2024Mar. 4, 2024

Arguably the Senators MVP this season - certainly their most consistent defenceman on a nightly basis. Logs around 21:00 TOI per game. All of his ice time comes at ES and the PK. Matches up versus top forward groups every shift. Tied for the team lead, on defense, with 20 even strength points although he missed time with injury and had only played 46 games as of March 3rd. 97 hits - 80 shot blocks and a (+10) defensively Moves well - thinks the game - competes every night - reliable Signed to a great contract - $4.6M AAV through 26/27 season.Feb. 27, 2024Mar. 4, 2024

Kubalik is a pending UFA. His contract carries a cap hit of $2.5M. He's a shell of the player he once was offensively and he brings very little attention to detail defensively. In his first 55 games, this season, he contributed 9G-4A He averages 12:30 TOI at even strength and the power play. A team looking to take on the risk of acquiring Kubalik is banking on him contributing more offense than he has - especially on the power-play. Shooter more than distributor - but only credited with 68 shots on goal - also doesn't play with much push back physically - only credited with 38 hits and 15 shot blocks Risk/Reward acquisition.Feb. 27, 2024Mar. 4, 2024

Chychrun's year has been solid offensively. He contributed 9G-21A in his first 53GP. Averages over 23 minutes per game TOI. All of his ice time comes at even strength and the power-play. He's a (-14) defensively. Chychrun is best described as a '2-way D' who isn't shy about ripping pucks on net in the offensive zone. He's been credited with 125 shots on goal and contributes offense on the power-play (4G-8A) Defensive detail ranges. Plenty strong. Excellent skater. 'Routes' to kill plays in his zone, and contain opponents ranges. One more year on his current contract that's armed with a 10 team no trade clause. Affordable $4.6M Top pairing 'D' at even strength. Kubalik has not produced the kind of offense the Senators were hoping he would contribute when they acquired him from the Detroit Red Wings. Through 43GP he had only produced 9G-3A - Averaged 13:46 TOI - 11:30 even strength and 2:16 on the power-play. He doesn't have a role on the penalty kill. In fact, he struggles defensively overall and has posted a (-20) rating in the forty-three games. In his most recent 20 game segment, before the All-Star break he scored 4G-2A and posted a (-10) rating. Kubalik is on an expiring contract that carries and AAV of $2.5M. Any team interested in acquiring him at the trade deadline is hoping he might find his game offensively and produce in a secondary role. 4th line forward at even strength. Has the skill to land on, potentially, a second power-play unit.Jan. 29, 2024Feb. 7, 2024

P1
Chychrun's year has mirrored that of his team mates. Inconsistent. He's a first pairing workhorse at even strength. In his first 47GP he averaged 22:41 TOI - 19:47 ES - 2:40 PP - Depth / very ltd role on the PK He produced 8G-20A - with 3G-8A coming on the PP. Defensively he was a (-11) - which is second worst on the team and worst in the defensive group. It has to be considered, however, that he matches up against top lines every night / there are no easy shifts for Chychrun. Great skater. Fast on straight lines. Agile. His 'routes' defending and keeping opponents to the perimeter have room for better execution - as does his gap control - defending against the rush Chychrun isn't overly physical but he's willing to get in the lane to block shots (credited with 26hits and 81 shot blocks) Speaking to his inconsistency - in a five game segment between January 23rd - 31st he was a (-6) in the first three games vs MTL / NYR / Bos ... followed by a (+1) rating in two games versus Nashville and Detroit . In the last two games he skated 26:27 vs NSH and 28:37 vs Det 2-way 'D' - provides better than secondary offense - dangerous on the PP - finds a lane on the back-side seam and knows how to finish / one time pucksJan. 29, 2024Feb. 5, 2024
Tomas HamaraLogo of the Ottawa SenatorsLD193 of 3

P3
Hamara started the year with the Kitchener Rangers (OHL). He suited up for eighteen games, scoring three assists. He's landed in more of an offensive role playing for the Brantford Bulldogs (OHL). Ottawa selected the 6'0 192lbs, left shot, defenceman in the third round (87th) in 2022. He's best described as a steady 'two-way' defenceman who provides secondary offense. There's nothing elite that stands out about Hamara's game. He moves well. He's an average plus defender. In short, he's reliable in a variety of roles. Expect Hamara to, potentially, be used in all situations for Team Czechia. Dec. 21, 2023-
Oskar PetterssonLogo of the Ottawa SenatorsRW193 of 3

RL
The Senators drafted the 6'2 198lbs, right shot, winger in the second round (72nd) in 2022. He's best described as a '2-way' forward who can occasionally provide some secondary offense. Pettersson is an average skater who competes hard up and down the ice. There's not a ton of flash to his game. He's involved in traffic and battles to extend plays along the wall. Expect Pettersson to slot into a depth role for Team Sweden. His primary ice time will come at even strength and the penalty kill.Dec. 21, 2023-
Kevin ReidlerLogo of the Ottawa SenatorsG191 of 1

#3
Reidler came to North America this season to develop in the USHL with the Fighting Saints. He's posted a 3.20 GAA and .900 save percentage. The first thing that stands out about the Senators fifth round pick (151st) in 2022 is his stature. Reidler is a giant in the net. He stands 6'6 201lbs. Reidler is a butterfly goalie who can use his size as an advantage. He presents decent coordination and mobility. It's key for Reidler to not get wandering around too much. When he loses his posts, he also loses his size advantage by having to track to far from side to side. In the pre-tournament camp, and games, it appears Reidler might end up being the third goalie for Team Sweden. Dec. 21, 2023-
Joonas KorpisaloLogo of the Ottawa SenatorsG292 of 2

1B
Korpisalo's game has ranged, at times, to start the season in Ottawa. Over his first 9 starts he has posted a 3.38 GAA and .902 save % There have been stretches the team in front of him needs to be better and more organized. Goalies have to trust what's happening around them. Conversely, he has had a few pucks get past him that he would like to have back. Korpisalo is similar to the entire team in Ottawa. Capable of having big moments and winning big games. Also some uneven nights that look a bit off and result in losses instead of wins. At the end of the day, he's a butterfly athletic goalie who's competing. More composure, some nights, will provide more reliable results.Nov. 8, 2023Nov. 11, 2023
Ridly GreigLogo of the Ottawa SenatorsC212 of 3
85
L3
Greig is on the rise in Ottawa. He slots in as a 3F for now but he's trending 2F as he travels more miles in the NHL. Players like this provide immense value to team results. He's deployed in all situations. He has the skill and pace to transport the puck in transition and gain zone entries at even strength and the power-play. He goes to the hard areas to battle for position and extend plays. In short, he's hard to play against. A bit of a throwback. Quick. Physical. High end compete. Makes life miserable for opponents. Area of concern, early on, is his success rate in the face-off circle (42%) Watch him closely though. He's net front on the PP and he finishes all his checks. If the Sens are going to graduate to be a playoff team, Greig will play a significant role. Averaging 15:22 TOI - 12:03 ES - 1:59 PP - 1:20 PK - 7GP - 1G-4A-5PTS-4PIMS(+7Oct. 24, 2023Oct. 28, 2023

Complete player. Deployed in all situations. Plays quick and fast. Relentless competitor. Through the first four games in (23/24) he is averaging 20:36 TOI 15:41 at ES / 4:10 on PP#1 / 0:44 on the PK 2G - 4A - 8 pims (+2) - credited with 5 hits and 4 shot blocks On the power-play he generally sets up on his strong side. The kind of player with the hockey sense to see plays developing one step ahead. When he catches a puck he has already determined what his options are to make the next play. Equal parts distributor / shooter. As F1 on the forecheck he isn't shy about rubbing his man off the puck. Has some bump and push back. Speed element is difficult to defend against. Wins most of his races to pucks. In tight areas, watch how effective he is spinning off checks, moving pucks to space and skating to an open area to make himself available for a return feed. Infectious. Dynamic. Part of the Senators young leadership group.Oct. 18, 2023Oct. 21, 2023

Depth forward who has seen his average TOI drop below eleven minutes to start the (23/24) season. Primary ice comes at ES. Second unit PK. Clean up duty on the PP on occasion. Good size. Plays with energy. Willing to bump opponents and disrupt the play as F1 on the forecheck. Provides some depth scoring. Three zone detail ranges. Can be hectic at times. Needs to take better stock of what is going on around him - especially in the defensive zone. A 4F who is hanging onto an NHL job in Chicago but would struggle to crack most NHL lineups.Oct. 11, 2023Oct. 17, 2023

Waived by Ottawa / claimed by Anaheim / Waived by Anaheim / reclaimed by Ottawa - all before start of (23/24) season His best shift(s) are definitely NHL worthy. Leans 2-way 'D' with some transitional upside. Very little bump. Moves well on straight lines - has the ability to walk the offensive blue line laterally and direct pucks on net from range. When time and space open up he has a heavy/hard shot that can beat goaltenders on its own. Has potential for second unit PP duty. Relatively lean looking. Average defender. His spatial awareness is sound but he has to jump to space to interrupt plays or win puck battles quicker.Oct. 1, 2023Oct. 12, 2023

Arrives in Ottawa after signing a free agent deal in the summer of 2023 Good size - butterfly/athletic / hybrid - similar style to Sergei Bobrovsky in Florida Active pads - good feet - better than average lateral push but his read/react has room for improvement - when his timing is on he is more than capable of making saves back door/off the flank with his quickness - competes - doesn't quit on the play - low blocker is an area that can be exposed - needs to play with maximum crease composure - gets into trouble when he's too busy and sliding outside the posits - still young enough to prove he is worthy of being a #1 - Sep. 24, 2023Oct. 2, 2023

Big body forward who can be used in a variety of roles. Leans shooter / goal scorer more than playmaker. Has enough speed to attack off the rush, get the edge, and direct pucks on net. Has proven he can score from range. Shoots the puck hard and accurately. Not an elite scorer however. More likely a middle six NHL forward who brings power, push back, reliable detail in all three zones, and secondary scoring. 'Swiss Army Knife' who can play the middle and the wing. Trustworthy. Size is an asset around opponents crease and coming off the boards with long reach. Not overly physical - bumps people more than punishing. Open ice pace will need to improve for NHL game.
