Why? Team needs a C and Monahan has been good since his double hip surgery, and who knows maybe him and Gaudreau can rekindle their chemistry and that gets them both going. Worst case scenario is probably that he ends up on LTIR rather than a 4.5M 4C or something like that.

Long term money scares me especially with young guys coming up like Fantilli, jiricek, Johnson, eventually Lindstrom etc. maybe with the cap going up it will make it easier to stomach long term money but I’m just uneasy about it

And someone else said Monahan wants to stay in Canada. I'll be surprised if we do more than a 1/2 year depth forward deal today.

That's fair but all things considered, probably won't be an issue since 4.5M isn't really a major cap hit considering CBJ's cap situation and probably most of those young guys won't get a big long-term deal until after Monahan's deal is up if it's 5-years. I think only Fantilli and Johnson (if he breaks out soon) will have long-term deals, rest probably get bridged. Plus, if Waddell runs CBJ similar to CAR, then chances are you'll end up being upset about him not handing out long-term deals down the road.

I didn’t see that he wanted to stay north. Sounds like je is really considering this tbh. 5x5.125

Probably right. Sounds like it’s gonna be 5x 5.25ish

Can't say I like this signing, if true, but honestly don't hate it.

Lindstrom is likely needing development time, and this slots Monahan and Fantilli as a 1C/2C. Sillinger can build his game up as a Plus 3C. Worst case scenario, Monahan can be a solid M6 F.

I can see this deal being good for 2-3 years, assuming Monahan stays healthy. The last two years may be hairy, but the cap will make this contract much more digestible by then.

But honestly, the most underrated effect here? Boone can finally move to the W and play fewer minutes.

RIP CapFriendly ✌️
