Such a good deal aav wise! Might be a bit disappointing to get only 3 years, but it gives them the chance to sign more guys this offseason

Thought they'd get at least 4 years at that price, but I don't hate it. Was important to keep the AAV under 6M.

A bit surprised with only 3 years, but it’s a solid AAV for the Avs

Aav stayed low but the term is going to hurt when he hits ufa status in three years

I actually think the 3 years may have been intentional. I think that's about when Ritchie will be ready to go into that 2C spot. At that point they can move Mitts and hopefully get a decent return for him. Either way. Happy we got a deal done with him. And it's under 6.

He'll be a rental at that point and the avs should still be pretty good. I don't think he'll be bringing in a decent return.

Knew we wasn't signing long term for under 6 after that playoff run.

Pretty good deal, after Cozens got 7.1 long term, I though Mittel would get 6 or slightly more.

And with Nichushkin possibly out long term, they needed a top 6 forward.

Good deal for both, thought he could've gotten more, but he went short term instead

Not bad for second line center. Mittlestadt have all the potential to be solid second line center for Colorado.

Price is solid, but the term is not enough. At least they'll have some cap to work with to resign other guys.

I would have loved to get more term too... but can't be upset with the AAV... 3 years is better than nothing, and at a reasonable hit.

Not if Callum Ritchie comes to form. McFarland himself said he's the future 2C

I just meant that bridging now means an even bigger contract come 2027.

Suprised by the term, but the AAV is solid.
It looks like the Avs wanted the lower cap hit and additional optionality, rather than the term.
I like the deal

I don't have a problem with short-term contracts. Used to be you want to lock a guy up long term to get as many years as you can out of him before you lose him for nothing as a UFA, but more and more players seem to be signing extensions these days instead of becoming UFAs (I don't have the stats on that -- it's just the way it seems to me), so the longer term becomes more of a gamble because you don't know how good the player is going to be in 6, 7 or 8 years. Also, young players usually want more AAV to sign long term, so short-term contracts are a good way for a team in win-only mode to keep the cap hit down. Then hopefully when it's time to re-sign the player, they can afford to give him a raise because the cap will be higher.

Solid contract, Colorado’s in such a cap crunch that they need all the savings they can get now

Yeah I get it. Perhaps in 2027 though, that won't be Colorado's problem?

Deal makes sense. Avs are cap strapped but they need the guy. No choice but to take him to UFA to keep the AAV low in the short term. Solid deal for both parties given the constraints.
