Description
There are a number of players who are right on the border of being negative value capdumps vs positive value trade targets. Generally good players with bad contracts on cap-strapped teams. Or players who have fallen out of favor with their team's fans., or whose future value is uncertain due to injury, etc. So call it even and make them free.

All of the scenarios below assume no retention. Retention would make them positive value.

Go ahead and make your case for why each of these actually has a positive or negative value.

Columbus would want something for laine, his contract is terrible but with 50% retention they could get a 1st from a contending team, burns is worth at least a 3rd from a contending team, panthers wouldn’t trade ekblad and Definetly not for free, knight gonna cost smth bc he’s young and they can sign him to a better contract when they’re ready to contend

Cody ceci is negative Edmonton should throw in a 4th and mid prospect, Jacob Trouba is extremely negative maybe with a 1st and decent prospect, Josh Norris is also a negative but Ottawa doesn’t need to get rid of him rn so they won’t pay

Orlov is fair but probably gonna cost Carolina a little

Depends on the context... if we're just looking to shed salary

With the cap finally going up substantially, I doubt this year will involve the likes of Fredrik Olofsson, Kailer Yamamoto and Josh Bailey be given way with prospects or picks to make cap room. I would even argue that Oilers didn't want to bail on Yamamoto, but it was other unmovable contracts that forced their hand to do so.

I think everyone you listed still has trade value. There are risks to players like Laine and Norris, but I personally think both will get back to career norms if not next year, the year after and an acquiring GM will take those risks.

There is probably going to be some GM that still over spends, making another player on their roster expendable to the future consideration trade. But those trades are usually other GMs recognizing the mistakes that team did and taking advantage of it.

And I never understand the hate for Ceci. It's usually who he is deployed with (Nurse, Phaneuf) who are the under achieving, over priced ones, or he's playing higher in the line-up than he should. He's on a reasonable contract and currently playing for the Stanley Cup. The dude is probably going to finish his career with over 1000 games. Not everyone can be superstars.

Everyone on this list has varying degree's of positive value, other than Ceci.

They'd all certainly be at a discounted price, but I very much doubt would be FC
