Can't see the Canes going for that, but I like it for the Hawks.

I’d rather use the draft pick. The option is get a top-of-the-line of player now and pay him top-of-the-line up dollars or get a very likely top-of-the-line lineup player and pay him in three/four years.

Doesn't really make sense for either team - Canes need Jarvis and the production he provides now, while Hawks can (and should) wait a few years for Demidov/Levshunov to mature and develop.

Jarvis is 22 and can put up 80 points a season while playing a strong 2way game. I am not worried about paying him if he is young and going to be in CHI for a long time. I would much rather have him than Levshunov.

I'd definitely rather have him over Guentzel, Marner, Necas, Marchessault, or any of the other free agent targets over the next couple summers.

Jarvis is 22. I'll take him over Levshunov any day of the week. So, if Levshunov is their target, they should just shop the pick and get someone young and good or trade back for a haul.

Of course you would. Which is exactly why the Canes wouldn't do this.

What are the chances #2 ends up becoming Jarvis at age 22? It might happen but might not. More than likely it won’t?

Add on top of that Canes need Jarvis now, not in 3-5 years. Maybe the value is close to fair but can’t imagine canes do this.

Well, I would also MUCH rather have Demidov at 2nd overall. But it sounds like KD wants to take Levshunov, and I think that is a horrible idea. So I'm just saying I would rather trade a 2nd overall pick than draft Levshunov.

The chances of Demidov being better than Jarvis are pretty good. Although there is something to be said for Jarvis' being strong both offensively and defensively. Demidov is defensively responsible-ish, but I don't see him being a Selke candidate. Like I said to the other guy, I just hate the idea of taking Levshunov. So if that is what KD is thinking of doing, I would rather trade the pick. Levshunov is an interesting young player, but he is not even the best defenseman available and I wouldn't even take him in the top 10. I think that in 5 to 10 years, it will be looked at as a huge mistake.

I’m definitely not extremely familiar with this class or even general evaluations of prospects and how likely they are to become certain types of nhl players. Would love to see Demidovs likelihood (or other potential #2s this year) of becoming and having the equivalent value of what Jarvis is now, especially by the age he is now. I’d have a hard time imagining it’s above 50%, and maybe it is or maybe they become better than Jarvis all together, I would just never risk taking that chance and I doubt the canes would.

Sure. I'm not trying to convince you to sell Jarvis. I'm just speaking purely from CHI's perspective, I don't want Levshunov at 2nd overall and I would rather trade the pick than select him.

Edit: It's more about the dialog going on around CHI and what they will do with the pick. Everyone thinks they are leaning Levshunov and I just don't like it.
