2027 1st is a wildcard. I'd rather it just be this year's 1st at 17OA. Caps could be a lottery team or a contender in 2027 - complete coin flip.

Picking up Lindgren
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jazzykiwi</b></div><div>I wouldn’t. If we’re talking Lindgren we’re talking Chychrun or Batherson with some picks</div></div>
I wouldn't go that far - Batherson especially would be a massive addition, and I'm positive Ottawa isn't going to look to move him. He's one of their untouchable guys. A Lindgren trade makes no sense for the caps unless they're getting a top 6 forward or a first round pick. Essentially a good hockey trade for the caps or a significant return of a future assets.

Caps accept before you think too hard about it. That’s a major L for the Leafs.

I don’t mind the caps trade actually. Value wise it seems to make sense, just depends on what the caps want to do this summer and how they view these prospects.

They would decline. Not because the caps aren't massively winning this trade (because the caps are easily winning this trade), but because they're loyal to Carlson to a fault. I'd take Marner on the caps in a heartbeat.

Don't trade our best LHD. We'd regret it instantly. Holtz is great but we need Fehervary.

Move up targets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>I'd agree you guys need impact forwards if you're looking to make the playoffs again but you also have a bottom 10 prospect pool that's only saved from being bottom 4 because of Leonard.
This is more of a quantity to move up idea, restock your cupboard for the future thing</div></div>
No, the caps need premium prospects. They're going to do the same thing they do every year - they'll draft the guy that dropped way further than he should have, and then everyone will say "this guy should've gone top 5 / top 10" like they did with Miroshnichenko, McMichael, etc... I'd hardly call it a bottom 4 prospect pool without Leonard, that's just you not knowing who the caps have...
Between Leonard, Miroshnichenko, Suzdalev, Cristall, Chesley, Iorio, Stevenson, etc., they have plenty of quantity. The NHL team is also full of recently graduated prospects like Lapierre, McMichael, Protas, Alexyev, and there's probably another couple I'm not thinking about. They need premium top talent and they need guys who can make an impact now. A 2025 1st that will honestly probably be a lower pick than their 2024 1st is the least appetizing return for the 17th pick in this draft. Attaching a mid prospect or a veteran roster player doesn't do anything for the caps. If they're moving a first, it's going to be to move up in the draft or to acquire a young top 6/9 forward.

None of the pieces you have listed are targets for the caps. We don't need left defensemen, we don't need bottom pair defensemen, and we don't need NHL-AHL tweeners. We need impact forwards.

As nice as it would be for the caps to get some sort of Kuemper+ for Dubois swap, I just can’t see it making any sense for the kings to move Dubois right now. Best way out is just holding onto him and waiting for him to work it out in LA.

There's roughly a trade in the first round similar to this one every two years or so, based on what I've seen on the trade history page of CF. So it's possible, but it would take the right situation. Trading into the top 10 or right outside the top 10 is probably gonna be a hefty price.

LA passes. I can't see them moving Dubois right now considering they'll have to pay/retain on him to do it, which they won't do right now. They're gonna wait it out to see what happens next year.
I'd be more than happy with the Anaheim trade but I don't know how that organization would view adding Jensen right now. They may need a vet RHD, but they will probably look to UFA for that to add one for free.
Both teams pass on the Ottawa trade - I am vehemently against trading McMichael for anything less than a superstar right now. Batherson is great, but moving McMichael is a mistake.
Easy pass on the Avs trade - I really like Girard, but he shouldn't cost one of our top prospects.

I think Cristall and Leonard will be on the roster in 25-26, Suzdalev is a maybe. I think it’s better to have more good players and have assets to move in the future. I think Kane would be objectively a good add, but they need younger pieces that can stay a while. Kane will also probably want more money than the caps should give him.

LA needs a significant amount of compensation to even consider a Kuemper for Dubois swap without retention. With that retention, the cost will be astronomical.
Both sides decline the Anaheim trade pretty easily. Anaheim wants a big piece central in the return if they're moving Zegras, and honestly I'd rather them not trade away McMichael right now.
Ottawa probably accepts but I think the caps are better off passing on that deal.
