Description

The jets need a good rd long term, the flames want to get younger and need another defencemen. Similarly, the blue jackets make room on defence and add a high end winger for a few small pieces. Yes the forward core probably needs an addition come TDL (Buchnevich is my top target), but this is a solid start and solves the biggest problem the jets had in the playoffs (puckmoving defencemen). Simply put, pionk isnt good enough to be played like a number two (like the jets do), but andersson is slightly better in every atribute (defensively) and should be an upgrade. Heinola breaking out will round out the d-core i hope.

Thought it was an interesting idea, lmk what you think.

I think Jets are taking Columbus to the shed here. Chinakhov alone for a rental Ehlers would probably be a enough, if not a walk away point for CBJ.

Ehlers for Boqvist, Ceulemans, 2nd seems more realistic.

Ehlers is interesting but he'd be a luxury here; that kind of asset package doesn't work at all.

2 years of andersson? Pionk (worth about a 2nd retained imo), chinakov (young guy with top 6 projection), and boqvist (potential top 4 dman) definitely is more than enough imo

Andersson is good, dont get me wrong. But hes no top pairing d-man. Probably not even a number 2 on most teams

I have a hard time gauging that package for Andersson. On the one hand you're giving us some good pieces, on the other, it feels like the Phaneuf trade where we get a bunch of nothing as a result. I don't see the Flames getting much for Pionk in a TD trade. I wasn't very impressed with Boqvist in my limited viewings, and I have no idea what Chinakov is at the NHL level. That's why I'm leaning towards a no from the Flames.

I would be a lot more comfortable moving Andersson for picks, and/or a team's top prospect.

I think CBJ would be on Ehlers' "no" list just because of where they have been in the standings and that they are rebuilding. From what I glean from his interviews it sounds like Ehlers wants to be on a competitive team and given his quality, there will be playoff teams (and teams near the playoffs) calling the Jets.

Don't think that's a very interesting return for Calgary, they can definitely get a 1st+ for Andersson, same as what Chychrun got at the very least.

Dubois and Trouba had one year of team control left, they were essentially pending UFA’s that participated in sign and trades.

This is another sign and trade. Not a rental. In this trade ehlers is a player with term.

I understand the similarities between a RFA starting at QO and a UFA with 1-year remaining…but GMs treat them very differently. And it is reflected in trade market.
