Hey congrats, if the goal was to make next year's Leafs as mediocre as possible I think you've done a great job.

Retaining half of Marner AND giving up a good prospect, for some reason acquiring Merzlikins who has been maybe the worst goalie in the league for the past 2-3 seasons. And $6mil+ in leftover capspace.

The second line looks like a good third line, the bottom six forwards may literally never score a goal. Andersson's a great player and Roy's a popular pick up, but my god this is just screaming "what if the Leafs really want the 12th pick in the 2025 draft".

penguins decline.
There is no role for Järnkrok on the penguins. They don't need a middle 6 LW.

CBJ accept and let you keep Lilly. If you want to add a late pick instead, that's fine.

I like the idea of the Leafs trading Marner and going after Andersson...but it's not going to be in the same deal. Get what you can for Marner, retain no more than $3M, and use the extra cap/assets to go after Andersson.

The problem: Marner isn't going to return market value, and Andersson would cost a premium. you're losing more than just Minten in the net assets.

Hawks probably accept. Trade benefits both teams.

You think that Bottom 6 won’t score?, you think that 2nd line is bad?, you think Merzlinkins wouldn’t be better with a much much better team infront of him?

Correct on all three.

The second line is a fine line in general, but poor by second-line standards. Considering our second line for a lot of this year was Bertuzzi - Tavares - Nylander, that's a big downgrade. The third line will barely score. Dewar has good speed and seems like a useful depth piece, but didn't show much in the way of offensive potential while he was here. Acciari doesn't score at all, and then you're counting on a rookie to be the primary offensive driver on the line.

Merzlikins has been bad for years. Goalies are weird and maybe he bounces back, but you're taking on a lot of term and still a fair bit of money for a guy who has been truly horrible for a while. Huge gamble.
