Trade Down
Hawks need to be using picks to trade up if they see a player they like. Not acquiring more picks. We have enough and are gonna run out of contract space.

100%. Basically an outline of why we are not trading for bum X, Y, or Z. Plus all the other non-sense.

2024-25 Mixup With Cap Increase
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>If I'm CHI's GM, I might be interested in Robertson for a 4th. On average, a guy who has already played NHL games is closer to a sure thing than a 4th round pick. At that price, he is probably worth taking a flyer on. I think the best TOR could hope for in a Robo trade is a 3rd round pick. So, something like this is certainly in the realm of possibility.</div></div>
At the cost of a 4th round pick, worst case scenario is he is part of the Rockford-Chicago shuffle.

Forget About Drai - NOT SERIOUS
So Hawks get 2 1sts for taking on Campbell and retaining 4.25M on Draisaitl. I guess as long as this happens before the buyout window I can see it. Then the Hawks can just find a cheap 1B free agent goalie.

Pajama boy returns with retention
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CosmicC</b></div><div>Yea, just checked that too. You're right as far as I can tell. Can't buy retention for yourself. Oh well.
As far as the folks saying Chicago never retains.. yea its tough. I mention that in the description. Chicago is kind of screwed either way though. If they keep him he's the biggest albatross contract in the league. If they deal him with retention yea, it compromises your capsheet through your window but so does his presence - atleast in this scenario you get a topline winger in his prime. *shrug* </div></div>
OMG how many times does this have to be explained. A top line RD is harder to find than a top line scoring winger. Jones is a top line RD. I think you would be hard pressed to say he is not in the top 30 of RD. Yes the contract is larger than production, but he has been better lately. And the Hawks still need to reach the cap floor. Plus the cap is going up an so are salaries for D. Jones plays a position where there are few prospects in the system. Maybe in 3, 4, 5 years they think about trading Jones with retention. But retaining on Jones and trading him in this dumpster fire of a deal is cutting of your nose to spite your face.
It makes ZERO sense for the Hawks.

Hawks would take Tavares as a cap dump AFTER his bonus is paid July 1st. Best you can get for the 11M in cap space is Future Considerations and a Signed Bedard bobblehead.

You will have to pay more to trade him to the Hawks. That is a fact. They don't need Rakell so it is a cap dump from Hawks perspective.

Great send him to SJ. Hawks are closer to coming out of their rebuild than SJ. Hawks are looking at new contracts for Bedard and KK in 2 years.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>holtzer</b></div><div>Chicago probably wouldn't trade all that capital just to move up. They need to build their farm.</div></div>
Hawks already have a lot of prospects and a lot of picks. They can't make them all. If there is a move to be made to package picks up to get a player they like now is the time to do it. There is a contract limit and now is the time to start looking for quality over quantity.

More realistically it would be a 7th and would be to a team that could use him. For a 7th, Jarnkrok would be a good investment for the Hawks, give them a little depth and experience.</div></div>
The obvious way to signal a placeholder trade is to put it in the trade notes.
