RHS Dman worth overpaying for

Created by: DopeGM
Team: 2024-25 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: May 8, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Flames would require an overpay to move a future captain and key player in their retool. And they do have two RHS dmen on their top pair.

11 OA feels like an overpay to me. Calgary might ask for even more. But Anderson is the perfect player to pickup for Buf.

Unless there's someone that they absolutely got to pick up at 11th OV, could be a savvy move. I do think they need a goalie as well though, so maybe they could try baking in a Markstrom trade in it as well.

This is less than Chychrun, Flames aren't trading him for less than Chychrun when he's still so 2 years from UFA

They’ve got cap space but are probably staying away from the expensive UFAs, so absorbing Markstrom’s contract for two years is a good from a term perspective. I just don’t think they want to block Levi.

You're trading the 11th overall pick for Andersson. Jokiharju is probably worth around what we got for Zadorov(3rd + 5th).

Chychrun which I see as a comparable returned the 12th overall pick +2 x 2nds. One of those 2nds was a conditional 1st, the condition being OTT making the conference finals.

That's fair, I just forgot that UPL had a pretty good season last year, so they are probably better off just starting the season with the two.

You could add one or two seconds and thirds but I think BUF would push back saying Jokiharju is worth a second or thereabouts. Anyways you’re right.

The players at 11 seem a lot more interesting to me this year than But and the players drafted right after him. Anyways it feels like an overpay but I’m happy to be wrong!

Calgary is also under no pressure to move him. Unless he doesn't plan to extend we would much rather keep him

It's not a completely terrible trade. It definitely has value for the Flames. That said, I think it's far from an overpay, and the Flames could get at least a 2nd on top of that.

Just because you may not have chosen But specifically at 12 does not mean the players available at 11 this year are better. Hell, last I checked Zach Benson was literally the next pick. Last year's draft was insanely stacked. This years draft gets called weak by people who have done zero research at all but even then it still doesn't hold a candle to last year

I had remembered Benson going right before! lol

I meant Yaeger Wood Honzek but Benson for sure I liked just as much as Catton, Tij, Senecke

If I were Craig Conroe, for Andersson, I'd ask for Samuelsson, Isak Rosen and a pick

Catton and Iginla are both going to be top 10 . Eiserman might fall to 11 though, but that's more similar to Perrault falling to 23

Can’t say with certainty that Iggy and Catton are both top ten. Too even a shelf all the way to like 14. Senecke my favourite of that group. His balance and shiftiness post growth spurt. RHS. And high danger scoring plays are amazing.
