I mean - no law against posting trades but 🤦🏻. Why would either team do this? Why would Marner waive to join a rebuilding team (in a contract year)? Why would Marner agree to waive and then extend in Anaheim? Why would a rebuilding team move assets for a player like Marner when they are far from competitive window? I could keep going but… you get the message

Anaheim are reportedly looking for a top 6 RW, and while they're bad now if all Marner cares about is getting paid Anaheim is the place for him (idk if he does but it's possible), while the Ducks can't possibly get any worse and have a very promising future with the abundance of prospects they've drafted/acquired. They move on from Vatrano and Gibson who are both unlikely to be around when the team is at its best, a young depth forward whose had injury problems but has been solid when healthy, a defensive prospect whose not necessarily got a spot going forward, and some picks that likely aren't good enough to make them regret getting Marner and Liljegren.

As for the leafs, they get a goalie on a reasonable deal assuming he can bounce back, which I think he can given how bad the team infront of him has been, a hyman-esque winger in Vatrano whose cheap, and 2 young players that could develop into full-time NHLers if they're not there already, plus some picks to restock the prospect cupboards or acquire other pieces, while clearing up cap space to add in free agency / trades

Nothing you wrote passes smell test, sorry. Literally NO chance Marner or either team entertain this

yeah, I highly doubt he waives for anyone, but thought it'd be a fit for the ducks on the chance he would waive for them

I don’t see how you think the timelines align. Ducks are ~ 3 years from realistically competing & Marner is in his prime now. I think the Ducks would be better to sign short term vet FAs, take their lumps and let promising young core develop. Maybe a few years from now - make a big trade but seems too early to me

if they get him with an 8 year extension, while having a year left, then 3 years from now they'll have 6 years left of Marner, as he's 29-30 years old, which is a bit older than you'd like but guys like Marner aren't available often and getting him still in his prime most likely for a few years when they're competitive could be worthwhile

Verbeek laughs

Gibson laughs

You decide who you want that no from but Anaheim isn’t making a Marner move

Gibson outright said he won’t play in TOR and has a NTC, and ANA would absolutely not retain $10M on him either

No issue moving the rest of that package for him, but probably not enough for TOR

All this becomes irrelevant if ANA drafts Demidov, locking him and Terry into their top 6 long term
