Don't love the retention on Kuraly for that long, but I'd probably accept this.

Yeah if roslovic was half retained and kuraly had no retention I would accept

i hate to lose tex here but it cashes in roslovic and lets me to stop watching sean kuraly play hockey, so those are both nice.

lesch is irrelevant and if we're really really lucky, sykora could become an NHLer.

a very late first is nice if we've got a move up our sleeve to consolidate pieces into a more premium player or pick this summer. but if we really were to make 5 selections in the top 3 rounds this summer, i think we might be crazy. we already have so many pieces in the pipeline that our AHL team is rotating the D every game.

I think you should prepare for the very real possibility that Kuraly is extended in the offseason.

I think its more likely than not that he gets extended. Hes a hometown guy, leader in the locker room, and is actually a fairly solid 4C. He would also probably take a reasonable salary and the term might take him to retirement. A new GM could easily come in and extend him to maintain some stability on the 4th line, while the other lines are majority young guys.

there wouldn't be many really young guys by year one of kuraly extension. #86 and #10 would be 25 at training camp and #59 turns 25 that february. #4 would be in year 5 in the nhl, #91 in year 4. your green frowards in the nhl would be fantilli, maybe dumais, maybe brindley, and maybe malatesta but probably not because he wouldn't have a roster spot with kuraly here. del bel belluz probably wouldn't have a spot yet even though he is likely to be close given his development in cleveland this season.

Yeah thats true, but i dont think we really have anyone that seems to make alot of sense as our 4C. Maybe Tex if he transitions to center. Im obviously biased cause i like Kuraly, but i think having a veteran 4C can be valuable. I think Kuraly plays the 4C role well. I would also love to see him retire a Jacket.

None of those prospects except for Malatesta project to be fourthliners, and he's not a center. Teams still need veterans, and Kuraly's perfect for the role he's in. If he takes a paycut to finish his career here, that's fine with me. Better to move the young pieces that don't fit for ones that do.

are jenner, gaudreau, and laine not enough veterans in the forward group? thats 25% of the lineup and like i laid out above, a big portion won't be young, they'll just be mid-career. so i kinda disagree that we need more veterans than that especially also having gudbranson and werenski in the d corp for that season at least.

i personally think we'll see cole sillinger become a 4C long term and a really good one. he's the perfect fourth liner in the way he's super strong on pucks, good at zone exits, and does all the little things but can't produce points. malatesta on that left wing and then i don't see room for kuraly. DDB or KJ are the 3C behind fants and voronkov in this scenario.

Laine's played his last game as a Blue Jacket, let's be real. They'll quietly move him over the summer as a "change of scenery" trade. The current assemblage of forwards has proved that there really isn't a spot for Laine, anyway. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Jenner moved at next year's deadline or summer 2025, no matter what they're saying now. Someone will make an offer the new GM can't refuse.

Twenty-two is extremely young for an NHL player, especially a defenseman. We have a very skewed perception of that as Jackets fans since the team is perennially one of the youngest in the league. Good teams are older, matter of fact.

Fourth line would be a waste of Sillinger, and he'll make way too much money for that to be feasible anyway.

I'm really not fond of the amount of retention here, nor do I like giving up Texier - we need more examples of play like his, even if he's not really experienced enough to be a mentor per se. And the 1st kind of makes me go "meh". Just trade Roz for whatever we can get for him and leave it at that.
