When St-Louis said people shouldnt give up on 21 years old 1st rounders, it didn't mean it's ok to give up on a 22 years old and one month with 11 goals, 28 points, in 76 NHL games TOTAL. Not even a full season jezz.

If healthy scratch Nils Lundkvist should teach you anything is that you cash in on young RHD before their price craters. Their logjam on D is something they need to address, dont you think? Nadeau is a big winger with ok potential.

MTL have a total of 6 RHD

33 yo David Savard
26 yo Jonathan Kovacevic
22 yo Justin Barron
21 yo Bogdan Konyushkov
20 yo Logan Mailloux
19 yo David Reinbacher
Savard is out after the 2024-2025 season
Kovacevic contract expires after the 24-25 season
Konyushkov has a 3 years deal in the KHL
Logan Mailloux isn’t NHL ready
Reinbacher could be next season but one year in Laval would be great for his development
MTL are thin on the right side, trading Barron because he had one horrible game in CHI isn’t the move to make here

Montreal's logjam is on the leftside of defence, not the right. Once Savard and Kovacevic get traded away (in the next 1.5 year), who's left? Barron, Reinbacher as a rookie and (Maybe) Mailloux. That's no logjam.

Excuses, excuses. They can easily resign Savard and Kovacevic if need be and I definitely would! Not to mention Reinbacher and Konyushkov look like legit solutions down the line, you also have Xhekaj and Harris that can play on the right. This is simply taking advantage of a weak RHD market. There is no perfect solution but tough decisions need to be made, eventually.

To be fair Barron has had many more weak games.

There's no pleasing, most here. You have to give to get! I'm sure Sabres fans will come here and say, we're already too small at forward, our 10th best prospect is untouchable blah blah blah

Why would you give up on Barron?

His play was ugly in Chicago, but I think he's been alright defensively this season.

You can trade away Harris, Savard, Kovacevic. Even Matheson or one of Struble/Xhekaj if you really need to get that big prospect.

They are all more expendable than Barron for the predictable future. It's not like if you could find a better RHD on the free agent market during summer. Those don't come around often.

Sure we gonna bring back 35 yo David Savard to play top 4 minutes ? No. Kovacevic is a bottom pairing dman. Reinbacher Barron/Mailloux are the future on the right side. On the left side it will be Guhle Hutson & a big fight between Xhekaj/Struble/Engstrom
We all agree Jordan Harris will probably be the odd-man out but they won’t give him away either

No need to overreact based on emotion. Players take time to develop - especially young defenceman.

How you’ve described Barron is exactly how people described Dobson 2 years ago and look at him now. So relax. Give Barron minutes and tasks to see what he is and to improve before you go making any rational judgement on him.

I'd argue different. Exactly the type to say nothing while being smug to get likes. And every 'fan' is emotional otherwise this league isnt a billonaire dollar business but I guess you are the only 'true fan'

Barron has been awful for awhile now. He just had possession of the puck in the neutral zone and left it after seeing Kucherov coming at him. Eventually, the rubber hits the road and reality sets in over promise. Many defenders had a lot of upside that never realized it, the outliers exist but many more prove that NHL results matter as we've seen it over and over in places like Buffalo and Edmonton.
