I would assume they'd also probably need to retain some money to flip Petry.

It's pretty decent, but with that much retention I could see SJ trying to ask for Blomqvist as the main prospect coming back.

2 1st round picks? I would be surprised if we have to go that high. I highly doubt Carolina is offering 2 1st's. There's only two teams involved. I doubt he will go for a haul.

I think it would be something like the Timo deal that has one guaranteed 1st and a 2nd that has conditions to upgrade to a First contingent on Games played or point production or something.

You have to ask yourself, if you were the sharks, is it worth it to eat 18.4 million dollars?

You might get them to retain 2-2.5 million AAV to get him down to a more reasonable but still highly paid cap hit, but retaining down to 7 with 4 years left on the contract is incredibly unlikely.

Sharks window realistically doesn't open until another 3-4 years anyways given:

1. The age of their young prospects

2. They don't have a #1 goalie

3. Vlasic's contract will be up

You're still asking the sharks owners to basically light that money on fire. Less term, or less AAV may be stomach-able, but you're asking them to comp a middle 6 center for the next four years, the prospects you are giving up are nothing special, maybe middle 6/pairing guys in the show if they get that far, and you are dumping Petry at the same time.

There's no chance that trade is accepted by the sharks, and the "you're not using the cap space, so why not" is not an answer.
