even though brodie couldn't move the puck in the playoffs, we don't have that many other options. i just cant see the leafs giving him up for a near meaningless pick

The reason I had them trading him is to clear up cap space, sign schenn maybe someone else in free agency for the price of Brodie.

Interesting low profile moves. Forbort would have to pair with Hronek. Reilly 100% would want at least twice the term. I'm being nitpicky but Hirose should pair with Johansson in Abby and bring back Burroughs as 7/8 dman on minimum deal.

Yeah I’m fine with Hirose being down there. Mostly there to fill run with 8D. Anyone of Burr, Hirose, juulsen, whoever could be there. Best for Hirose to get time in Abby anyway. Love that it’s so close to call a guy up now.

Schenn is your Brodie replacement. Then you can go out get a Soucy/Mayfield type. Or Graves and schenn for maybe 1-1.5 more than just Brodie. Maybe get creative with the cap space freed ups and trade for someone. Lots of options. Or if the rumours are true, with that 5m freed up would go a long way fitting Erik karlsson. Even tho I don’t think that trade happens. You can just get creative when you got cap room.

Might have a few between Hirose, Johansson and Woo. Hopefully they can take a big step development wise this year.

schenn cannot replace brodie. not a chance. brodie stays if all he gets is a 3rd.

I would be open to Brodie -for- 3rd Pick 2023 (Tor), Dakota Joshua and 4th Pick 2023 (Van). It is freeing up our cap space but we are also losing our best defensive defenseman. If rumours about Treliving interested in trying to get Zadorov then the Leafs need cap space. I suspect that Brodie was injured during the playoffs as he has never been that bad in his whole time here.

I think you’re missing my point here. 5M to replace Brodie in whatever means that is could go a long way. That’s all I’m saying. Whoever that is, or whatever route that is, you have the flexibility to do so. Matthew’s, Nylander contracts too.
But hey, if it’s a no, that’s fine too. I have other trade ideas with other teams for similar value, maybe better trades. Just thought it was an interesting angle the leafs could take.

Agreed. Lots of interesting guys who could still make a push in development. I think that’s an area the team has greatly improved on and needs to improve on. Focus on development within. That being said, I think the teams success this year is really gonna hinge on Hogs and Podz as well. Those 2 need to come in and steal 2 spots and run with it. It’s time. We need them to start producing, and moulding themselves into key contributing pieces.

They also need time. Pod getting 7 minutes a night on the 4th line is killing his development. All the wingers added over the past few years hurt them quite a bit.

Don’t think van does that for Brodie. I was only entertaining this for a value cap move for the leafs. Van can go elsewhere and get that value from another team, maybe not as good of a player. I’d just keep Myers in that case and just trade at TDL or just run him till the end of the year he’s expiring anyway.

Yes you’re not wrong! Hogs had this year, I think he could make a nice run. Podz you know is working his bag off this summer. Kid has work ethic, been noted by everyone around him so I’m hopeful

Easy decline from Edmonton. They can't replace Ceci for the same AAV and the 4th doesn't help them win now.
