Death by a thousand 2nds
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>Byfield would need to improve and become a franchise forward to be worth that. Good player so far with potential, but that would be enormously risky for what he has proven so far.</div></div>
It's so hard to say nowadays. I see Power 8.3, Cat near 8, Meier over 8, PLD at 8, Caulfield near 8, Sanderson at 8. Cap bump too. Buying UFA years gets a bit crazy these days. Maybe a bit lower would work thinking about guys like Cozens and Bratt but hard to say.

I don't love the trade and that's a big hole on the right. Big Z says he isn't comfortable on the right. Can't see Van adding a pick.
Not feeling 3 years for Martinook. Rather see another RHD signing like Tanev or Walker instead.
Top 6 is great though.

This move would take the Canucks tandem from being top 3 to bottom 5</div></div>
Give it a year or so, the Demko/Markstrom conversation will be back as Silovs/Demko.

Dubas Likely To Be Aggressive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JSEB93</b></div><div>I'm not saying I necessarily would pay them more either - maybe would need to find alternatives. And I don't think you egregiously underpaid anybody. I just think there's multiple guys there that have a very good chance of making a few hundred K more each. I normally don't like to nitpick AAVs - it's just when you're that close to the cap it might cause an issue haha.
Yeah I'd agree he's tough to gauge. With the cap going up I could see him getting the same AAV as a guy like Palat - maybe not likely though. Even if he does sign at 5.5 though, I can see Duclair/Wennberg/Walker getting some more. Again I don't think you're far off by any means, it's just any increase puts you over the cap. I'm probably just being an annoying nitpicker haha. So that's my bad. I do think it would be a good team though</div></div>
All good. I thought it provided depth the forward group lacks. Money might be tight to pull off. Maybe the goat recruits well lol

Dubas Likely To Be Aggressive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JSEB93</b></div><div>It's definitely a good team - I just think you underpaid most of the UFAs by a little bit. Which normally wouldn't be a huge deal, but you're right up against the cap. So probably will have to drop someone, maybe two players. I also don' see any signs that Pickering is ready for that spot yet.</div></div>
Maybe Wennberg and Walker get more. I wouldn't pay more for the others. Turbo's market is hard to gauge. He's a good two way guy but is his production worth $6+?? Idk. I'd struggle with that.

Dubas Likely To Be Aggressive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JokiStan</b></div><div>Is this really "aggressive"? Really average</div></div>
Haha. I suppose Dubas average is more aggressive than other GMs so this could be titled 'Dubas continues...'.
There will have been lots of changes in two years outside the core guys like Crosby, Malkin, Rust, Letang and Jarry. Trading for Karlsson and sending of Geuntzel all very aggressive (risky) moves imo.

Smith seems like he'd fit in Trotz vision. No term risk either that FAs will be after. And some young guys coming up soon like Kemmel and Schaefer that this contract wouldn't block.
Maybe Boston isn't ideal for Eller but cheap pick up imo.

Dubas Likely To Be Aggressive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>Dubas hasn't been aggressive at all in season, at the deadline, or since the season ended. Quite the opposite with pathetic complacency when obvious changes should have happened. So claiming he will be aggressive this offseason doesn't seem likely and is still past due. I like Walker and think he would be good value on this contract, but PIT plays their 3RD ~12m/game. Just no justification to add to that position.</div></div>
That's fair. Though he did ship off Geuntzel. That was a very big move. In the offseason when he took over, he made changes as well.
With one of the goat's leading the team, I think he will be active.
Walker adds some insurance for Karlsson though a more defensive dman could make more sense.

Lol, my source?
Is Dubas not always active? Track record speaks for itself.
Turbo sentiment I understand but good two way guy. Could just stick to Smith but age is a concern.
Walker might get more but I'm not so sure. He definitely made a leap but I think teams might be a reluctant to pay too much.

It's keeping the puck out of their own net. Adding another offensive D man at the expense of maybe their best defensive forward seems like a step in the wrong direction. Plus Hronek's new contract probably eats up cap space the Bolts need to spend elsewhere.</div></div>
I guess my thought is that running Perbix, Raddysh, Crozier, De Haan isn't cutting it.

If no Lindholm, then Petey at C and spending money on the wing. I'm not against that but Lindholm's two way game is a big plus for the team and takes pressure on EP and JT on PK and he's good on PP.
I'd rather load up at center and run the lotto line. And if injuries happen, it's not an issue. The forward depth is very concerning right now.

Good to have flexibility. Sure sometimes he is 3rd line but that third line is out playing Petey with Hog and whatever plug they have. And when Lotto gets the call, Lindholm is great to have.
Hughes doesn't need Hronek to be great. Neither does this team. I like Hronek a lot but he needs to do more if we are talking $7M+. I would love to see him out there w Z or Soucy driving offense without Hughes. Haven't seen it yet. And Willander can run pp2 soon enough for the 10 seconds it gets lol

KYLE TURN UP GAP YEAR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Not a bad effort. The D group and goaltending is spot on. Chatfield probably gets a little more $ per and gets 2 or 3 years, but he's the right type of player. Can't see Stammer signing w/ the Hawks, especially for one year. I'm going to be surprised if he leaves Tampa. PK88 coming back would be awesome, but seems unlikely as well. But I do expect the Hawks to be aggressive in free agency and sign at least two top 6 level forwards. As for that trade, Hawks perspective just keep Reichel. Can't see why Hawks make that deal</div></div>
For sure. Stammer probably unlikely but definitely looking to add to the top 6 but only short term. The potential free agency class next year makes sense to keep money for.
I wasn't sure about how the org felt about Reichel's development. Edmonton gets a cheaper forward and Bourgault a much better opportunity.
