Looks like he still wants to make a deal. That makes me optimistic. If we can ship out Mantha and somehow upgrade I’d feel real good about the roster.

Oh thank god

I’m done

Even at the cheapest level of extension for Debrincat, Washington does not have the money

Only way it could work is if backy retires or kuzy and Mantha are traded. Both are real unlikely

I’d like to pickup Zadina. Feels like the classic caps reclamation project

pass on both zadina and patrick. they would've been perfect pickups if this was like 2015-19 in the brett conolly mold, but the team is in a different place right now. realistically if they hit they are good third liners at most and we are already more than set their. would rather have those spots filled by protas and mcmike or given to an actual elite talent.

Something has to give now. At first I thought we were done but now I expect us to make a big top 6 trade.

Patches said he shouldn’t be out long after the opener and right now we don’t have enough cap space for everyone.

Hope Mantha is packaged for somebody better

This is what needs to have.

How do we feel about Kevin Leblanc or Garland

Both are not Mantha but I’m not sure either are upgrades over Mantha with Carbery.

Seems like trading kuzy is the only real way to upgrade

I am in the minority here (after reading some Caps fans posts), but I don't mind the Edmundson trade. 50% retained for a physical defender who clears the front of the net, which was a MAJOR issue second half of last year. Plus, AA has been somewhat injury prone (unfortunately) so having a vet option who can eat minutes and throw his body around - don't mind it.

I am more "critical" of the Patches signing. He is 35, hasn't really played in 2 seasons, coming back from double achilles surgeries, and goes directly against our offseason objective at getting younger. I totally get that he scores goals and that is a major need for the Caps (obviously). But again, he has played only 44 games in the last 2 seasons and won't be ready by start of season...And we spend 2m (PLUS 2m more if he plays 20 games)...

To me, that is just a little expensive. But I guess a) what else could the Caps do - nothing and b) low-ish risk/high reward (even though low risk is more medium because a) it takes away from youth time and b) would take up $2m if he under performs)

But - fingers crossed for healthy!

I dont think we were willing to pay to dump Mantha and the Kuzy return was likely way worse than expected. I agree with you on Edmundson at 50% retention. However, I think Patches at $2 million is the best we could do to bring in a top 6 scoring winger. Definitely some risk that he gets reinjured but if hes even able to play half the season and the playoffs and plays well its all worth it.

Also important to note, he tried coming back from the surgery in 5 months time. Its already been 5 months and he isnt expected to debut for another 5 months. Double the recovery time and PT definitely makes me feel better

We have one move left to make. Unless we run a 21 man roster which is unlikely.

I think the most likely is trading Mantha and picks or prospects for a younger and cheaper top 6 winger.

Who do you guys think we target? Oloffson, Bjorkstrand, who else?

I'd really like to pick up Zadina (contract will be terminated today) for a cheap 1 x ~800k-1.5m contract, but we have absolutely no space. I do feel like he would fit in on the Caps with the veteran presence and youth movement. Yes he has struggled to put up points, but he still is 23 and has been solid at moving the puck.

I don’t know that I believe that. He may have preferred Philly but when everyone linked him to us, they can’t come out post draft and say he wanted to be a cap

Especially when he has the same agent as Kuzy, who theoretically wants out. Based off of Michkov’s own words, I highly doubt he “never wanted to go to DC”

So Karlsson will become a pen or cane.

Metro gets better

And we still haven’t done anything to make the team better,

Idc if we can’t because of cap. Make room. Balls to the Wall

Starting to feel like GMBM is bunting on the season. Next year some contracts come off the books (i know we have guys to re-sign too) and the cap goes up so we should have more room to make a bigger retool. Osh or Backy could be done too leaving even more cap space.

I think hes waiting for the deadline or next offseason and is fine with being a wild card team or on the outside looking in.

I would prefer to go all in or all out not this in between commitment

eh i would still wait until training camp starts to make a final judgement. still feel like there's something up his sleeve that no one will see coming

I hope so, not sure the roster works without it. If we are being fair I think we have to give him until Patches comes back
