Patches is a great deal at 2 million and even with Bonuses Mantha comes off the books next year and I doubt Backstrom plays any longer than that. This is a smart deal for Washington. Plus, if he gets hurt again, I doubt that he then fufills the performance bonuses. Only slight annoyance is the NMC but I don’t foresee it being an issue, as if the caps sell at the deadline and he’s healthy I don’t think it’ll be hard for them to convince him to waive and ring chase.

For who, at this point I have more faith in Mantha under a competent coach than I do in many of these free agents (washed up Kane and toews etc)

I am open to letting Mantha and kuzy bounce back. But it’s now looking like only one of protas or McMike will have a spot when Patches is healthy.

Also, unless we run a 21 man roster we don’t have room for Marty to re-sign unless someone goes on LTIR so we may have more moves

Edit: looked at the numbers: aasuming the forward call ups are Snively Protas and McMichael, and that the caps accrue a bit of cap space from Patches on LTIR, they should be fine. Could also save a bit of money going Shepard as a backup over Lindgren

I know I overreact but bmac teased us with a big offseason and getting the guys we need.
He hasn’t gotten a thing he promised

If his recovery is similar to last year, I believe it will be November/December. I’d expect December, but maybe early January if they take extra time to make sure he doesn’t re-injure again.

Prob same timeline as Wilson

I think he realizes that the major changes will be next offseason with this potentially being oshie, backy, and Manthas last season. That’s $20 million in cap space plus the cap going up. I know we need to re sign some guys but we will have some space to upgrade the top 6.

However i give this off-season so far a D. Draft was great but not trading up for michkov is a huge mistake and not really upgrading the team hurts

I mean, he teased getting a top 6 forward and when healthy, Patches is that. Other than that he really didn’t say anything, and he doesn’t have a lot of space to work with.

I’m not sure how we can fit Marty. Maybe we will just go with 21 guys.

I’m thinking he may get lower than we’ve previously thought, something in the 1x1.75 range. That should give space for everyone at least until patches returns and when he does, maybe they accrue enough LTIR space? Otherwise I think they end up running a 22 man with one forward (maybe Snively or McMichael) and Alexeyev as the scratches. Going Shepard over Lindgren (not a big fan but maybe) could save some more money as well.

My thoughts from the day so far:

1) With Edmundson as a player, I give BMac the benefit of the doubt with finding bottom of the lineup vets. Time and time again he's found guys who despite all fan opinion to the contrary or statistical profiles have turned out great -- just think about how much people hated the Mojo and Gus signings last year. That being said, 1.75m is too much and really impacts their ability to carry another cheap player as the 13th forward or seventh defenseman. I would've preferred to find the 1m dollar version of Edmundson in FA instead.

2) I love the Pacioretty deal. Of all of the names in FA or through trade that were realistically available, he's the best scorer besides DeBrincat and that is the area we needed the most help with. Yes, he's old, but there's a reason young, proven, top 6 forward options are difficult to acquire.

3) Something else has to give. From all of the roster/cap/team building perspectives I just don't see how they head into the season without moving at least one forward. I suspect Mantha and NAK are the most likely to be gone, but wonder if Milano or even Marty could be on the table.

4) I'll make an ACGM post trying to make the money work, but I would still love to see a swing on DeBrincat or at the least a swap of Mantha for someone like Garland

Sort of feel the same I do after the draft. Overall nothing I can nit-pick too much about the individual moves or overarching strategy but still feel like something bigger needs to happen.

an additional $1 million if he plays 10 games, $500,000 if he plays 15 games, and a final $500,000 if he reaches 20 games this season.

Looks like he still wants to make a deal. That makes me optimistic. If we can ship out Mantha and somehow upgrade I’d feel real good about the roster.
