The Capitals are on the outside looking in on the 2nd wildcard spot in the East, right? Two points behind Florida with one less game played as of this writing.

I have no idea why they would part with a first now to unload Mantha as opposed to over the summer or at the draft.

Yeah no way Caps do this. They are selling at the deadline and they'll probably see if a new coach will play Mantha like he deserves. They aren't going to pay to move him. At worst I can see them accepting a 2nd for him.

One of two things happen with mantha imo. Either he gets traded for a pick (maybe a second at best) or he stays on the team through the end of his contract with the hope that he pops off next year under a new coach. Can’t see Lavi sticking around after this year.
