Hawks decline.

While I hope nothing but the best for Laine as he works he way through whatever off ice issues he is dealing with, it doesn’t make sense for any team never mind one going through a rebuild to trade prospects and draft capital for him. I would need assurances that he has a handle on his life before even considering bringing him into the organization.

The answer to your ponderings is, "More than this." Columbus is likely to retain at least some money, which in this case would demand one of Moore or Rinzel as part of the return.

The max I would give is a 2nd if that’s not in the ballpark then that’s okay too.

Chicago doesn’t need retention, nor are they moving prospects. It’s a bad fit.

No team is giving up a top prospect for a guy who can’t stay healthy, has some questionable off ice problems, and is very publicly looking to be moved, even with retention. Especially the hawks who don’t need retention and definitely won’t be giving away good prospects. I could see the hawks being a fit for a second round pick plus a little more but anything beyond that and the hawks say no, probably every team does
