Jordan Nolan is the definition of "just a guy". Plus he's on a two-way contract; why pay him $650,000 to do nothing when you could pay him $70,000 to do nothing?

You're right. But he's a guy who can play all three forward positions. The point is there's a lot of lineup flexibility and a ton of depth.

Including Bobby Ryan in the deal is a non-starter for me. I don't mind trading Parayko for Karlsson, but you've got to extend Karlsson first.

I don't love giving up that second rounder, especially for a guy with one year left on his contract, but otherwise I like the Simmonds trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AK_tune</b></div><div>The point of signing a 13m free agent is NOT to give up a ton of assets.</div></div>
You’re not wrong. But you’ve got to clear up some room to do that. Plus, trading for him gives you the option of signing for 8 years instead of seven and you get an exclusive negotiating window prior to July 1. There’s never been a franchise defining center hit the free agent market, so getting JT might require playing by a different set of rules.

I don’t think Jake Allen, Ivan Barbashev, and Jake Walman would inspire Tavares to stay in New York, but I guess you never know. Even with giving up those assets, St. Louis is closer to a cup than the Islanders, and I think that’s what Tavares would be more interested in.

No real reason they wouldn't -- this could just as easily be a deadline deal. But I wanted to be able to fill out the roster for next season

Kyrou and Thomas are the prospects least likely to move. Replace Kyrou with Kostin and this would probably work, but I think if we’re giving up one of our blue chips we’d rather have Hoffman. He has one more year on his current contract and we’re thinner at wing than we are center.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chopper02</b></div><div>I'd rather sign Thorton than Stastny. Guy is a solid player, but we haven't done anything with him. Time to move on.
Besides, you say it's better to have a strong top 6 rather than a killer first line. If you sign Tavares you have Hoffman and Tavares on one line, Schwartz-Schenn-Tarasenko on the other. You could always move Kyrou to the right side next to them. How much stronger do you want? The 2nd line shown above isn't stronger than that.</div></div>
Kyrou has never played an NHL game. There’s a pretty decent chance he’s Ty Rattie 2.0.

Blues Offseason Dream
Man, that's asking a lot of Robert Thomas in his first NHL season. Not to mention that I don't know why the team would move Schenn to RW after how well he's played at C this season. I also don't really understand signing both Brodziak and Sundqvist to identical deals. Seems to me you're gonna have to pick one or the other. Looking at just the forwards, though, I think you'd be better off not trading for Ekman-Larsson and using his cap hit to sign an actual 2nd line RW.

Evander Kane
2019 1st, Fabbri, Jaskin, 2018 3rd is probably the best we can do, but I don't know if that's enough. BUF likely wants that first sooner, but 2019 is supposed to be a good draft so who knows if STL even wants to trade it. You'd have to get BUF to take on Gunnarsson, too, so that might mean another pick. I don't think Kane is worth all that, especially without a signed contract beyond this season.

Big Trade and Healthy Schwartz
It's easy for St. Louis to like the trade, since there's essentially no value being sent to OTT. That pick needs to be a first, and I don't know that OTT would want 2019's (or if STL would be willing to trade it). Throw in a defense prospect and you're a little closer.

Random Blues Lineup (17-18)
I think you do either the Duchene or Galchenyuk trade; not both. I don't really see the point in acquiring both, since the Blues have a need for a 1C and have plenty of Top-6 LWs. Personally I think I'd do the Duchene trade of Galchenyuk since he has a proven track record at center. I don't think Berglund + Barbashev and spare parts gets it done, though. You're probably looking at Steen + one of Edmundson/Walman/Schmaltz + Barbashev + 2019 first round + a conditional later round pick. Salaries should be a wash, so no retention necessary. I don't think the Blues do that if it's just Duchene coming back, though. They're pretty high on Edmundson and all 3 prospects.

I like this quite a bit. I don't know that I would pay that much for Kapanen, but I can see Toronto considering that deal. I think Dallas might want a little bit more to part with Stephen Johns, though.

One more piece to the puzzle
These trades are hilariously bad. The only one that's somewhat realistic is the Duchene trade, but there's no way the Blues are trading Fabbri and Barbashev to a division rival. And that pick would have to be a first.

STL Cup Run (Feedback Please)
Why Alzner? A 2nd/3rd line RW is a much greater need than defense. Plus that Parayko contract is way low. It's much more likely he'll get closer to $6M/yr.

Trade with LVK
If you're trading away all our D-men, it should be because our prospects are ready for NHL duty. Trading Gunnarsson and Bouw now doesn't make any sense, regardless of the cap savings. Edmundson isn't a top pairing D-man now, and really only has the potential to be a low-to-mid-tier top-4 guy. McNabb might be a <em>slight</em> improvement over Gunnarsson. As for the forwards, I don't really get what Cody Eakin brings to the table that we don't already have internally. He's signed for 3 years, and Tage Thompson likely would be ready for third-line center duties in 2 years.

Replacing Revo
I actually think this is what the team will look like this season. I don't think Chris Neil is worth $1M, but I wouldn't put it past Army to pay him that. Parayko is probably closer to $6M than $5M, but 6 years is probably right for term.

That's fair. I could've gone 6x6 for Parayko, but wanted to leave some room to sign a UFA RW. Could always just try to fill that position internally and give the savings to Parayko. Either way, the important thing is making sure there's room for those two RFAs next season.
