Well gotta give to get or get rid of something sometimes. All of this is basically just pass the trash where one team's trash might better help someone else.

I'd be disappointed if the Blues did this. I don't see them moving back in draft. If anything, they would like to move up.

Marner to OTT will help both teams
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>He wasn't, but he wanted more money than what he was making in Calgary
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6JoXgkDtjM... The only "playoff" aspect where Tkachuk's better than Matthews and Marner is PPs drawn which Marner has 0 control over... And at that time, Tkachuk had significantly less points per game than Marner and Matthews
Tkachuk also said he would only signed a multi year deal with 4 teams... Otherwise, he'd walk a year later... That's basically a NMC
So, both of their situations are very similar</div></div>
I think if the Leafs decide to trade Marner (which almost seems like a given based on many in your fanbase's reactions), you are going to be disappointed in the return. Maybe I'm wrong, but we'll see.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>Matthews Tkachuk was all of these 5 things and he got a significantly better return than this... And, to answer your follow up, Marner has a higher PPG than Tkachuk and has better defensive stats/60 then Tkachuk over the last 2 seasons
This OP's a troll... Wanting a guy they just signed as their GM to be fired 1 season later</div></div>
Tkachuk was none of these things after his last season in Calgary:
1. Tkachuk was not overpaid when he was on Calgary
2. Tkachuk is not overpaid in Florida
3. Tkachuk performs in the playoffs
4. Tkachuk did not have a NMC. He had some say as he required an extension.
5. Tkachuk was a RFA and not UFA.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>You're missing Ottawa's 2024 unprotected 1st</div></div>
Not to kick a fan base while their down, but Marner does not have the value you think he has:
1. He's already overpaid
2. He's going to want a raise
3. He doesn't perform in the playoffs
4. He has a full NMC
5. He's a UFA after next season
This all adds up to he will dictate where he gets traded, and the return you get will not be nearly as great as you think...ala the 3rd and the 4th the Sens got for Tarasenko...

So you are a Stars fan in the middle of the playoffs making trade threads between teams not in the playoffs or soon to be out...seems perfectly sane....not

Burnt toast
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JuanDamienNebraska</b></div><div>That’s funny, I don’t remember saying that they were particularly good. Seems as if you misread or misinterpreted what I wrote. PIT isn’t trading expiring Smith only to be clogged with term on an older, middle six player. Because it is expiring, Smith’s contract is much better than Saad’s to PIT. He and his cap hit can be traded at the deadline, or walk next summer. Therefore, PIT can get younger with that space while potentially even bringing back a useful asset in the process. Pretty simple concept really. I’ll make it simple for you by repeating, one more time, something that I wrote:
I’d much rather stick it out with Graves than take on Krug’s and Saad’s contracts.
We don’t want your bad contracts. We don’t want clogged for even longer with older players. No.</div></div>
Saad is 2 years younger than Smith and is signed for one more season for $1m less AAV and he actually lived up to his contract last year. Don’t let actually facts get in the way though…

It’s gone in a year, and he can be traded for something at the deadline, if that’s how the season transpires. Also, the cap hit isn’t even terrible. He’s certainly liable to have a bounce back year.
I’d much rather stick it out with Graves then take on Krug’s and Saad’s contracts for years to come. No thank you. Those contracts are all yours.</div></div>
Saad just scored 26 goals last year…ok if you don’t like trade but to pretend the Blues contracts are bad and Graves and Smith’s are good is some delusional ass shi+

Tavares unmovable so had to be Marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KoneDome</b></div><div>Why Marner, not Matthews or Nylander.
1. Hard to judge this year, but Nylander has been good in playoffs last few years. He is strong on pucks and style of play translates to playoffs much more than Marner.
2. Matthews: you just can’t move off that talent. You keep running it back with a player of that ability as long as you can.
Wasn’t aware you can’t attach conditional picks to players signing. Maybe they both resign immediately. Marner 8x 11.25 and Buchnevich at 8x8? After that the Parayko for Liljegren isn’t outrageous to make up for the value in Marner-Buchnevich. I’d hear leafs adding mid pick or prospect.
Parayko’s NMC. Obviously it depends on that. Maybe he wants to go to a team more likely to make playoffs and win (cue jokes about leafs winning in playoffs). Per Marner, all these Marner trades are built around him waving to get out. St Louis seems like a reasonably good option for him?</div></div>
Marner turtles in the playoffs - not the type of player the Blues are looking for let alone pay $11m per year.

You got Hronek for a first and a second. Why is now suddenly worth a 1st, a 1st who's stock has improved from where he was drafted, and a NHL dman who more than held his own in his first full season?
