Carlyle loves Fowler and uses him in all situations. I think they start talking extension this summer and protect him, Lindholm, and Bieksa (yuck). Getz, Perry, Kesler, Silfverberg, Rakell, Cogs, and maybe they trade for another forward to protect.

Then they lose only one of Manson/Vatanen. If they trade one of them for that 7th forward, they'd still lose the other in the expansion draft so I think they're better off trading picks for said forward.

Detroit, Tampa, Columbus, Nashville, Florida, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, and Winnipeg might be willing to trade a solid forward they won't be able to protect for picks rather than lose them for nothing.

Unfortunately, Silferberg, Baertschi, and Dumba have to be left unprotected as there are other guys to protect. Ennis i don't see being protected.
Sobotka - Protected Lehtera
Eakin - What's wrong with not protecting a 3rd/4th liner?
Gallagher - Protected Byron over Gallagher
Ellis - Protected Jose, Subban, and Ekholm

I have no idea which 2 of Dumba, Brodin, Scandella, Spurgeon will be protected. I remember everybody being head over heels for Brodin a few years ago but I don't know if the rest have caught up to him or not.
I think the Ducks can afford to lose someone like Vatanen more than Silfverberg (with Montour and Theodore being NHL ready) thus protect 7 forwards and maybe do some wheeling and dealing prior to the draft.
Vancouver is terrible. I protected the Sedins, Loui, Horvat, Sutter, Granlund, Baerstchi up front. They could make a deal prior to the draft to upgrade their protected list.
Buffalo 7F - ROR, Okposo, Kane, Ennis, Foligno, Girgensons, Larsson.
Sobotka is way more versatile than Lehtera. That Lehtera extension was a terrible move by the Blues.
Dallas will probably go 7F even though they'd probably like to keep a 4th D. Benn, Spezza, Seguin, Eakin, Ritchie, Faksa... not sure about the 7th. Eakin plays up and down that lineup and is pretty valuable to them.
MTL 7F - Patches, Shaw, Galchenyuk, Danault, Byron, Gallagher... Plekanec? No way do they expose Gallagher. Very affordable cap hit.
NSH protects 4D. Ellis is more valuable than Neal or Jarnkrok.
I left Green unprotected. Not sure Dekeyser is worth the extension they gave him but Detroit has liked him since day 1.
