Rossi has accomplished nothing at the NHL level so far man.. he has the same stock Alex Holtz does right now, their career totals are almost identical. Would you rather in a trade, Alex Holtz or Zeev Buium? Because that’s the logic you just used

Casey was one of the top dmen in the NCAA last season and projects between a first line D and Star D… his point totals are hilarious and he actually plays defense.. tbh I’d never do that trade from NJ’s standpoint, Rossi looks more like a 3C than anything rn

Saros and Ullmark fit the bill and both will probably get small raises that put them around that number. And yeah I’d love Swayman but it won’t happen.. that’s a package I’d move Mercer for but Boston never goes for it unless contract talks sour this summer

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>Holtz isn't a top 10 piece anymore and NJ has plenty of undersized skilled players. Goalies aren't going to come cheap this off season with how weak the UFA market is, or you can test your luck with 37 year old Talbot or Washingtons other failed goalie.</div></div>
The issue is Markstrom’s Age and relatively sudden leap to elite after their team went through major upheavals that changed the look of the entire team. Logic dictates that he will regress very hard this year or next and I’m not willing to part with high end assets in what’s a longshot bet at longevity.. Holtz is definitely less valuable than his draft, he’s still likely worth a late 1st. I’m not willing to give up any assets that are high value for a temporary solution.. this team is intended to fight for cups for 10 years, this goalie acquisition needs to be there for 5 of them and Markstrom doesn’t fit that bill. Jersey should just pay for Saros/Ullmark since they meet those criteria and they have the “spare” assets to afford them.
Being completely honest, the most I’d give up for Markstrom is a pair of 2nd rounders and a B/C prospect i.e Clarke/Filmon etc

Based on current prices It's just not worth going for a goalie, and the cap issues from a star goalies cost would be very detrimental to the rest of the roster. But again, we still have the assets available to be very aggressive for a goalie if need be during the season</div></div>
Noted on Trenin but you can’t trade for a goalie mid-season.. they typically struggle and the window is honestly now for NJ… they have the capability to move Palat next season when is MNTC kicks in with a 10 or 15 team list so that’s 6 million gone right when we need it.. I’ve built out 12 year plans many times using Google Sheets and they’re fine as long as the goalie is under 7 million and that’s with very generous raises for the guys you’d expect.. money won’t be an issue past next season which is the choke point.. cap frees up again when Casey/Gritsyuk hit the roster the year after

Tbh I’d much rather just not risk it and spend the assets for a star goalie.. I’m completely done with giving guys a chance in goal at this point and KK played like 6 games for the devils last year (which were good) but I’m not looking for any sample size less than 2 full seasons of star caliber goaltending
Edit: I do like the other moves though and what’s your thing with Trenin? Don’t know much about him but I can’t figure out what you like about him lmao

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>LOL!</div></div>
9OA grabbed Cory Schneider who was one of the top goalies in the league at the time. Jersey isn’t moving it to Detroit unless Detroit can fill a gap the team has. NJ has no problem taking the best of what’s left if they can’t do that. They’ll end up with a better player than they’d have gotten in a trade. Nashville, Boston, and Minnesota among others would be above you in the trade queue because they can provide a goalie

A high end starting goalie or a middle 6 play driving power forward plus a mid round pick.. neither of which I think Detroit can satisfy tbh

I love Askarov as a prospect/player for the future and I’d overpay up to the ‘25 and ‘26 firsts for him because I’m extremely confident he’s going to become the next Vasilevsky. I felt he was going to be great at the draft and wanted them to draft him but they didn’t and he’s only gotten much better. His true trade value because of the mild risk involved is probably around the ‘25 first, ‘25 third, and maybe a Haamenaho type?

NJ DEVILS SUMMER SIGNINGS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Waffelz</b></div><div>Wasn't Holtz supposed to be a pretty good prospect? What happened?</div></div>
The Devils fanbase selects a scapegoat every season to blame their misery on basically.. 2 seasons ago it was Pavel Zacha, last season it was Damon Severson despite a franchise best year, this season it was Alex Holtz. Holtz had 2 statistically great seasons in the AHL developing, looked much faster and more determined on the puck in his rookie year and scored almost 20 goals and 40 points in very limited playing time. Everybody just likes to whine and he’s not developing fast enough for them… he definitely makes a boneheaded play here and there but so does every other player. I’m still mildly confident he can be an effective second line player given a coach that gets the right stuff out of him

Production wins games, cups, and makes players valuable.. Mercer has far more trade value than Rossi. It’s been 4 years since the draft so they’re closing in on their peaks within the next season or two, Rossi isn’t going to get much better and Mercer looks like a far superior player as of today
