Avs trade
Late 1st isn't enough for 6M of retention, Marleau retention netted 12th overall pick. On top of that Girard isn't enough for Markström 1-for-1, and Georgiev is negative asset, COL would probably have to add their -26 first and one B-tier prospect (Foudy, Olausson) for CGY to consider it.

Yeah, I think the only teams that would be interested on Norris would be CHI and SJS, as they have the cap space and their playoff window is still far away, but they wouldn't give any major assets either, I think a 2nd rounder is the max they would give. LA might also entertain Norris-Dubois 1-for-1.

Leon trade
Late 1st, late 2nd, prospect struggling in AHL and 2 years of well-known locker room cancer who is not performing up to his salary is not enough to get Konecny. And even Holland is not dumb enough to trade away young elite 3C with size and great face-off ability away for a 4th rounder. And the cap space is used to bring in Cody Glass and David Kämpf????

While the value offered for O'Connor is solid, I don't think it makes any sense for COL to give up one of their best value contracts for futures when they are facing cap crunch next summer.

Rantanen trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TJTwolf</b></div><div>Avs decline. There's simply no real need for them to trade Rantanen.</div></div>
Who would you get rid of next summer? On top of losing Drouin and Walker for nothing, COL has to get rid of atleast one roster player (Girard, Colton, Lehkonen) to make the cap work if they insist on keeping Rantanen. While I agree that keeping Rantanen probably gives us the better roster for 24-25, I think that by trading him COL can extend the cup-contending window beyond 26-27 (Makar extension).

It is the teams that are looking to exit their rebuilding phase, and don't have elite talent to make the push, I think the teams that make the most sense are Buffalo, Ottawa, Detroit, Columbus, Nashville, Montreal and Seattle. For return COL would likely look at blue chip prospects ready to contribute at NHL level, while carrying ELC cap hit, till example Benson, Edvinsson, Jiricek, Reinbacher. Other type of package I can see Rantanen being traded for is a package that includes top6 winger with term and team-friendly caphit (Tuch, Björkstrand, Batherson) along with several first round picks or prospects carrying equal value.

MacK contract was also signed 2 years earlier, if Rants extension would come at identical caphit% it would carry an AAV of $13.36M, so I guess that is the upper limit of the extension, I see no way he signs for less than $12.5M (total contract value going over 100M carries a lot of prestige).

It is really hard to find comparable trades, Edvinsson would probably be the centerpiece in the trade, I can't see DET adding another one of their blue chip assets on top of that (Augustine, Kasper, ASP, Danielson). So I think the value might be off but if DET would add, it would probably be conditional first rounders, later round picks or lesser prospects.

He is half retained here. Don't know about you, but I'd say Crosby on 4,3x2 is more valuable than Hagel with 1,5x2. I don't think the age matters here, Crosby carries the risk of career ending injury, but at time it wasn't sure if Hagel's season was just a fluke.

Yeah, not really comparable players, but the situations are comparable. The point I'm making is that if you can get key players for cheap cap hit, the price is going to be astronomical. What probably will reduce the payment is Crosby's NMC, so if Crosby decides that he wants to only play for Colorado, the new management in Pittsburgh probably respects it and keeps the trade modest, but not disrespectfully low.

Hagel fetched two firsts and two roster players, so this is just one first more plus what ever is the difference between Katchouk and Raddysh compared to Olausson, Newhook, Merkley. Doesn't seem that much of an overpayment when you compare Hagel and Crosby as players, as the term is the same.

Don't think it is the right move to spend almost 4M to your 3rd pairing when your 3rd line is Meyers-Eller-LOC. I don't think Bean-Schenn would be a huge upgrade over JJ-Malinski till example, while it would carry over double the caphit. Would be willing to part ways with more assets for half retained Crosby also, he is still top10 centers in the league.

We know the value of STL's, we don't know the value of COL's, other than that it can only be the same or more. If you meant that STL's 1st value wasn't known at the time of the trade that's a different thing altogether and even so we still don't know the value of COL's. I think I've given you all the reasoning you should need. It's an overpay by miles, and I've already told you I wouldn't trade for Lindholm, and given you the reasoning for that, and again you've altered what you stated. You asked what I would be willing to trade for him and I told you, I wouldn't trade for him at all. He simply isn't a realistic target imo.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TJTwolf</b></div><div>No they weren't but it was the last pick of the draft so to compare it now and say Colorado's is far less in value is wrong. We can't know what it WILL be, we know what STL's was. The Avs pick can't possibly be of lower value. Whether they knew at the time or not is irrelevant. I hadn't even got as far as criticising those. Thanks for pointing out that stupidity as well yourself. You seem pretty upset that anyone should criticise your trades. Why? Kind of the point of it. Mine get criticised too and I'd argue they've been far closer to reality, but I don't get hung up on it much. Think I've already made it clear that I wouldn't trade for Lindholm. Calgary will want more than the Avs should give. Pretty simple that. Especially when there are guys they could probably acquire for far less in the way of assets (Kuznetsov for example).</div></div>
Trades are compared to what they were at the time of trade, not at the outcome. Buying lottery ticket is still an irrational decision, eventhough you would win it. Also I'm not upset at all that you criticize my proposal, I would just like to have some further reasoning. Also I didn't ask you tell a realistic trade proposal that would work, I asked to tell what is the maximum you would pay for Lindholm, whether CAL would accept or not.

That's before we add in the extra firsts and your under evaluation of Newhook. You can make the maths work for pretty much anything. IF a player signs this, IF a player does that. In REALITY however it's a rental. Therefore it's too much. I'd say it's too much even if not a rental. There's also the question of not whether the Avs CAN but whether they SHOULD, and there is no doubt in my mind and I think pretty much everyone else here other than yourself and Calgary fans that they shouldn't do this. Crazy!</div></div>
STL wasn't any more knowledgeable on the value of their '19 1st, however they were not considered to be contender unlike 23-24 COL. Also I don't think there is anything unrealistic about the calculations, you should criticize the decision to let Toews walk and the decision to trade Girard, since by those moves the space for Lindholm is created. Also if you are so eager to criticize my proposed trade for Lindholm, why won't you state what you would be willing to trade for him?

It is not a rental, COL has the space necessary to sign him to 8x8 after the season ends, as explained in the description. Also I don't think Olausson+Newhook is that much different in value compared to Thompson+2021 2nd. Colorados 2024 1st is far smaller value than STL 2019 1st.

Fringe 1C's are not cheap, remember what O'reilly fetched? He fetched 1st rounder which was predicted to be mid first round pick, disappointing low first round pick 2 seasons ago (Olausson), 2nd round pick (I don't think Newhook is worth more). At that point Thompson already had NHL games under his belt while Olausson has done pretty much nothing at AHL level. O'Reilly had more term than Lindholm, but Lindholm is at an extremely cheap cap hit for a contender looking to go all in. You should also consider that O'reilly was widely considered to be underpayment from STL and also contained 2 roster players.

Even the '24 first would do it, as Colorado will probably have to part ways with either Girard or Toews next summer, Attard is young RD with size and NHL level skating, I would consider him to be bit more than a 'fringe guy', considering that Colorado doesn't really have right handed defensive prospects. Gross overpayment from PHI which COL would accept in a heartbeat.

I'm pretty sure that Sakic isn't signing one year deals. So that $13,000,000 will eat into the $25,000,000 for next year leaving the Avalanche with even less money to spend. Like i said good luck on the Elias lindholm front. Plus other teams have more to offer Calgary for Lindholm than Colorado.</div></div>
For the roster players only Mikkola, Byram, Meyers, Malgin and Eller are signings for the 23-24 season. Mikkola is a 3rd pairing D so 2x2 is the appropriate contract, since term isn't usually given to depth defensemen, Byram is signed for 4x2 bridge deal, and I don't think either of the camps want to have a long term deal at this point. Eller is an aging centerman, I don't think any teams are going to give him term. Malgin and Meyers are on prove it-type of deals, and they wouldn't even get much more if they were given more term, in my proposal Colorado has over 2,000,000 capspace, and some of it could be used to give Malgin and Meyers additional years. As for the Elias Lindholm, I don't think rebuilding teams are willing to offer as much for him as contending teams, as a fringe 1C signed for bit over 2M has far more value for contenders.

"For 24-25 Toews, Francouz and Eller give 8,100,000$ cap relief, while Behrens, Kovalenko, Foudy and Annunen are expected to enter the lineup, which gives enough to sign Lindholm to an 8 year contract." I also outlined that frontoffice should spend whatever it takes to acquire Lindholm, remaining assets are to be used for the Girard-Luostarinen trade if 1 for 1 isn't enough, and for the deadline to acquire 3C and RD.
