Mantha2Van
Not sure how Mantha would fit into Vancouver, and the Caps just extended Protas long-term... don't think either team would say yes here

Error correction
The Kuzy to Nashville trade only would've gone through with Matt Duchene, Nashville chose to buy him out instead so that's off the table. There's also zero chance that Washington is trading Wilson until the trade deadline at the earliest, even then both he and the Capitals want an extension.

Is this really the team
The actual lines probably look a little different and they'll put Pacioretty on standard IR instead of LTIR so that he can come back sooner, but these are probably the players that they'll be rocking with

Rebuild Now Part 2
I really don't see the team moving Wilson, I think that the organization views him as the next captain and the one who will guide Washington through the rebuild when Ovi/Backstrom/Oshie are all gone

I think Anaheim would take this offer, but it may not have quite enough sweeteners for the Hawks. The people saying that Mantha can get actual trade value in exchange drive me crazy

Kuzy to Smashville
Kuzy isn't going to Nashville anymore, if he did the move was supposed to be a one for one with the Caps getting back Matt Duchene. Ultimately the Predators decided to instead swallow Duchene's buyout penalty and sign Ryan O'Reilly to fill his role.

Deadline
Why would Washington sell at the deadline? In November when the team was dead to rights sure, but now they're pretty safely in the range of WC2-Metro 2. Even if they don't see themselves as a bonafide contender standing pat makes way more sense than selling

Just put me out of my misery
I feel like Boeser for Mantha is inevitable at this point... both guys have similar contracts/age/production and have fallen out of favor in their current organizations. A fresh start might do the trick for both, but I think the Canucks value Boeser more than the Capitals value Mantha so a mid-tier pick/prospect would likely be going back to Vancouver as well imo.

Kane
If the Caps were able to work out a deal for Kane like this built around prospects other than McMichael or LaPierre, do it ten times out of ten. Probably have to bump up the salary retention a bit though.

(WSH / NJD) - 2018 2nd & 3rd round pick for Johansson
Little did everyone in 2017 know... changing out MoJo for Eller and saving cap space to bring back Oshie was always the right choice. What at first looks like an easy win for New Jersey turns out to be a massive victory for Washington

I always liked Vitek more than Sammy, but for 3.4 million a year? I agree, I'll gladly take Kuemper and Lindgren instead if that was the price on Vitek's mind.

I hope that Washington wouldn't do that trade, LaPierre and Iorio are two of the only legitimate prospects that they have, plus two good draft picks. I know that GMBM can be highly aggressive so I wouldn't be surprised if he did this to push the team into a win now mode for a final plyoff run with Ovechkin, but if he did this then Washington is truly just be throwing their future out the window.

Sheary is a nice add to their forward group, but you're losing a lot of shot generation by subtracting Nylander. The salary cap savings won't be enough to let them get a good enough player to make this worth while.</div></div>
I was thinking that too, however the Leafs are going to be desperate to get a starting goaltending since Campbell is likely gone, and Dubas has reached the point where he needs to shake up the core given how they cannot mentally win a playoff series. These two factors combined may push him to make a rash decision.

I get that the Coyotes have been swallowing bad contracts to gain draft picks but Duchene seems too far for them, everyone else that they've acquired has 1-2 years left on their deals in order to not mess up Arizona in long term plans. If Duchene has five, that might be too steep for the Coyotes

Bring him in
I get that you want him on your team long term but that's Kaprizov's issue, he's not ready for a big deal like that yet. There's a reason why he's rejected seven and eight year deals, it's way more likely he'll end up with something in the 3-5 year range

Caps get younger through the system
I watched McMichael play a lot last year and at the moment he seems NHL ready as a winger rather than a center because of the defensive differences in the positions. My guess would be if Kuznetsov stays they go with McMichael - Eller - Sprong for the third line and Sheary - Dowd - Hathaway for the fourth
