Nashville doesn't need the retention
Nashville isn't going to trade their 1st since they're likely going to be bottom 1/3 of the NHL with or without Kessel.

I get that the Coyotes have been swallowing bad contracts to gain draft picks but Duchene seems too far for them, everyone else that they've acquired has 1-2 years left on their deals in order to not mess up Arizona in long term plans. If Duchene has five, that might be too steep for the Coyotes

I would only do it because I think the Predators are not good at all and could be a bottom team this year. And Duchene (yes has a bad contract), could help mentor the younger centers. And he could alwasy get his value up and could flip him with significant retention. But i totally get what you mean.

Wow one of the few Nashville fans that understand the preds are not good now. They could get some good assets for guys like forsberg and ekholm etc. There is just no way they can be good with two guys that do not perform to their massive contracts.

There's the very real chance NSH's 1st is a lottery pick, but I'd still have to think hard about this offer. NSH could likely get a later 1st back from a contender for Kessel at the deadline - if not more (especially if NSH retains even more salary). Getting out of Duchene's contract for the price of sliding down in the 1st round plus Ingram isn't a bad deal at all, so long as it isn't a top five pick.

Who are these Preds fans you're referring to? I don't know of any that are very optimistic about NSH's immediate future. Maybe if absolutely everything goes right for them, they'll be a fringe playoff team, but that's about it.
