Fixing This Team - Marner Stays
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shinsei_Leafs</b></div><div>How is this team fixed? All the same players that can't score in the playoffs...2 goals per game.</div></div>
The key component being - Marner stays. If Marner stays - i think D needs to be addressed and need a 3C upgrade. Better D will make a huge difference.... but reilly will need to play massive minutes as there is no real puck mover.
Ultimately to fix it need to move Marner or Tavares but interesting to explore how to get it done without doing that if neither wave.

On the last part I have to agree. Doubt he would waive to MTL

24-25 redux v3
Leafs fans are operating on another planet. The guy is about to go UFA and has a full NMC and all of the leverage. He will end up walking for nothing if Shanahan shares this viewpoint.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canuck4life</b></div><div>May want to look in to something called Meds, have you heard of them?</div></div>
I have heard of them my Canuck friend.
If Shanahan is as stubborn as the leafs fan base trolling this board - which is possible - then marner will play out the year and walk to free agency, and then he will be gone for nothing. the leafs cannot resign him at 10+ and build a roster that wins. In addition, he has a full NMC - so what can he realistically return? Most of you are unfortunately terribly ill informed or illogical… this guy will not fetch more than a late first rounder. And I argue that retained Anderson is worth that if he rebounds - I concede that is debatable.

Marner Trade that Actually Works
What is comical is that leafs fans insist on debating the hypothetical regular season value of players instead of focusing on rebuilding their team to actually accomplish something. Hence why shanahan has struggled so mightily - let go of the theoretical asset value maximization based on inflated regular season stats playing with Matthews and go build a roster that can actually win. Mic dropped!

I'm a nucks fan and hate the Leafs, but this is straight up lunacy.
Marner an elite winger on any team and you think J.Anderson is reasonable. The guy can barely stay healthy. That's going to be a buy out contract at some point.</div></div>
Elite marner with 3 points in the playoffs. He was extremely elite last night on the series losing goal and dipsy dangling around the middle of the ice doing nothing. That was quite elite.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaptainTavares</b></div><div>I knew this site would be pure lunacy today, but this has to be the most asinine trade I have ever come across on this site...and that is hard to accomplish.
A team would need to be paid to take Anderson even with the retention, and you are suggesting he would return a 90+ point winger and another young goal scoring winger. Truly an insane level of delusion.
Both Marner and Robertson likely need fresh starts elsewhere, but they are not being moved for one of the worst contracts in the league(5.5 for another 3 years!!!) because he's a "big body".
This is most certainly not what Toronto needs as you suggest lol.</div></div>

Because this iteration of the leafs doesn’t work. Because the regular season is not the objective. Because Marner is terrified of going to the middle of the ice.

Habs are retaining 2m. He is worth 3.5 if he gets back to 22-23 form and he is a big hard forechecking player who was arguably the best forward in the playoffs during our cup run. Precisely what the leafs need.

25g guy playing with the most prolific goal scorer in the last 30 years…. Let’s see how many points he gets on a team without Matthews. Same as how Zach Hyman is not a 50g scorer.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>I find this a truly bizarre mis-take. Montreal can clearly benefit from having Perfetti as shown by the lineup above (and he also provides some disaster insurance in the not-unlikely event that the fragile Dach gets injured again). Winnipeg have 4 NHL-quality LhDs under team control for next season: Morrissey, Samberg, Stanley and Heinola. Guhle is clearly superior to the latter pair right now and even if he isn't superior to Samberg already, he has a far higher upside. Some Habs fans biased in favor of <strong>all</strong> of their players may object to exchanging Guhle for a top-line LW, but with the overpopulation on the left side, this trade makes sense for both teams. I've criticized many of the OP's ideas in the past, but my hat's off to a Montreal adherent who can make such a well-envisioned trade. Well done!</div></div>
