Honesty earns you a lot of points, and admitting that you were wrong earns you even more.
Due respect.

Buddy thinks "a first" is an honest characterization of the third overall pick in this draft, never mind not having the hockey knowledge to understand the ramifications of UFA status.

next year
Zellweger will make one of the two LhD signings unnecessary, and re-signing RFA Jackson LaCombe will make acquiring Cole silly.
Zegras for Carlo is robbing Peter to pay Paul, no matter what you think about their respective values.
I'd rather have Gibson and our first and two seconds than Markstrom, a second, a third and a fourth, especially since the second and fourth are future picks.
There is no Anaheim stalwart on the face of the planet who thinks that McGinn is worth more than a fifth.

We're not trading the third overall pick in this year's draft for Mitch Marner and we aren't trading Trevor Zegras for that stew.
I guess that bad Marner trades and bad Zegras trades will be with us right up until the first game of the regular season.

Rangers 2
Repeated ACGMs by Rangers stalwarts have offered us Jacob Trouba for a third. We think that he and Radko Gudas will be quite an effective disincentive for opponents to take liberties with our youngsters.

Realistic Lightning Moves DreamDream
It's utterly unrealistic to think that we're going to trade a 23-year-old averaging 0.73 PPG despite having lost over 50 games this season due to injuries and who already has two 60-point-plus seasons under his belt for a 27-year-old who has never exceeded 45 points in a season and has averaged 0.54 points over all of his full seasons. Yes, yes, Cirelli is an excellent defensive center in spite of his sub-50% faceoff win percentage, but we're not trading our #1 LW for a #3C.

Pittsburgh Penguins signed Jack St. Ivany (3 Years / $775,000 AAV)
It sounded like the coaching staff is cautiously optimistic about him, so getting him for the League minimum is great for the Pens.

New Blood
You have to tender Thomas and Turcotte their full Qualifying Offers or they become free agents, but you have enough cap space to do that.
I'd love to have AM back, but I'll bet that he gets at least twice as much as that even on a "prove-it" deal, which he really doesn't need.
If that's all we offer Martin Necas, he'll file for arbitration and get a two-year goodbye deal or else force a long-term, big-ticket contract which we probably can't afford. I'm not sure that he's the type of forward we should be going after, with our cap situation.

Player trades you can possibly target with the 18th pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>knowerofpuck</b></div><div>As much as I appreciate the grandstanding lecture, I acknowledged that comment by saying the "centerpiece going back." The 18th pick is (obviously) not a strong enough asset itself to convince those teams to move off young, established top-six forwards, and I don't think adding mid-round picks or B prospects changes that. So yes, those guys are non-starters if 18OA is the centerpiece going back.</div></div>
Your characterization of standing up with another CF user who has far more experience than you do (and has always been far more gracious than you) as "grandstanding" is as revealing as the sarcasm with which it was delivered.

Yes or no
Welcome to CapFriendly.
I think that you're way off on your signings.
To begin with, if you don't tender (and pay) Ryan Lindgren his Qualifying Offer ($3.6 million), he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Schneider has missed only one game since being promoted from Hartford. Even if he gets a bridge deal, I think that it will be for more than that. He's fulfilling his draft position.
DuClair is only 29 next year and a pretty effective middle-6 forward. His last contract was for $3 million, so I think that someone will offer him a raise and at least 3 seasons.
Roslovic is 27 and was pretty productive last year for both Columbus and NY, both in the regular season and the playoffs. His last contract was for an AAV of $4 million, so I don't see him taking that severe a pay cut.
The biggest criticism I can levy is that you forgot to re-sign Kaapo Kakko.
Don't be discouraged -- most of us didn't do as well as this at the outset. Keep posting!

Oh, goody, $8.5 million Pierre-Luc DuBois and $7.8 million Evgeni Kuznetsov on our third line.
Maybe next time you try to construct a trade, you should take a passing glance at the other team's cap situation.

Player trades you can possibly target with the 18th pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SensFan40</b></div><div>18 is below the drop off in this draft, it's not a very valuable pick. For the Sens it would take 18 + for either Chychrun and Norris; let alone both.</div></div>
I think that he means either, like he does with the Winnipeg pair or the St. Louis pair (Kyrou and Buchnevich, as amended).
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>knowerofpuck</b></div><div>Pretty much every player you listed here is worth much more than the 18th overall pick, especially in what is considered to be a weak draft.
Zegras, Kyrou and Necas especially are non-starters if that is the centerpiece going back.</div></div>
"Just putting players to the trade. Not all trades would be straight up for the 18th pick. Trying to look at possibilities."
Over time, you'll learn to recognize those CF worthies whose ideas should automatically be given serious consideration. When something looks severely out of whack, you should give the issue some second thought, including maybe a second look.

Canes Offseason
Switching the Boston second for Carolina's 2025 first wouldn't rehabilitate that atrocious Zegras mis-evaluation.
Boston would be trading Ullmark because they have Swayman, so why in the world would the Bruins be taking Andersen back? Moreover, the way that you've constructed that trade, you've made Boston's cap situation WORSE.

Targets at 26 overall
I think that you might have your eye on a RW prospect (or right-shooting C who could become a RW) to arrive when Anderson and Gallagher finally age out. LeTourneau is one good possibility; how about local boys Sam O'Reilly from London or Jett Luchanko from Guelph? Further afield, there's the sizeable Adam Jecho from Edmonton or even Matvei Gridin from the USHL, who is actually a leftie but has some gaudy numbers.
Basha and Beaudoin are certainly reasonable options if you're not going to be limited by positional need.

Verbeek will work with what he inherited (Olen Zellweger) but I can't see him bringing aboard anyone who isn't at least 6 feet tall and reasonable weight. Note that of the current crew (including our top 5 prospects), other than Zellweger only Radko Gudas is under 6'2" and nobody has to worry about <strong>his</strong> size.

Justin Faulk isn't a Pat Verbeek kind of defender and I don't believe that he'll see Faulk as the top-4 right-shot defenseman he's looking for this summer.

Interesting trade. Why Nashville asked for the 2024 seventh instead of a 2025 pick, I'll never understand. Now the entire scouting staff has to sit around the draft table for 8 wasted hours instead of getting a buzz at lunch and then going out on The Strip.

Helping out both Toronto and Nashville
Take out O'Reilly and make it Nashville's 2025 second.
I'll be shocked if Stephenson signs for less than $4.25 million. I think it's quite possible that someone's going to give him $5 million. And this is his last chance for a nice payday, so he's going to insist on 4 or 5 years on his deal -- the same as Matt Roy.
