I don't think he is because he is already 20 when he will sign the contract. Believe it only applies if you are 18 or 19 when you sign, but I could be wrong. Also, I'm pretty sure the stipulation of being traded to the Ducks was to burn off a year of his ELC this year so no way the Ducks don't sign him this year to burn off a year. That RFA summer is going to be insane though with how many guys will be due pay raises

Zegras is more than likely the 1LW, not 3C. But for the sake of this ACGM, lets assume he does play center, if you flip Killorn and Stammer, rearrange the defensive pairings (including promoting Lacombe for Vaaks), and this line up is probably about as much as us Ducks fans are realistically hoping for.

Just as a technical matter, Vaakanainen's Qualifying Offer is $945,000 and Lindstrom's is a surprising $997,500.
I don't think we'd have to pay Tyler Toffoli more than $4.5 million, especially if we're giving him 4 years. I'd love to add DeMelo, of course.
Drew Helleson might be as ready for prime time as Tristan Luneau.

He can play the right, he did it in college, but this year he has played way better on the left (part of that too though is how terrible most of the Ducks D has been). He has played his best hockey paired with Gudas. He struggled a bit at the start of the season playing pretty much exclusively on the right with Fowler, so for a still developing defensemen, I probably wouldn't advise playing him on the right side

I'm going to have to cut back across the grain though OP, I think LaCombe is developing as a fine 2nd pair 2 way D, Zellweger on the other hand needs some major points ironed out in his defensive game. I'd rather keep LaCombe and send Zell to the AHL for a couple of seasons.</div></div>

I wouldn't doubt that, I'm not sure anyone really would. More just trying to offload him honestly, but I think the Ducks would need to get rid of a contract that is signed through 26-27 in order to bring in Faulk as most of the Ducks RFAs are due big raises that year. Blues have no use for Gibson, and I wouldn't be ready to get rid of Killorn just yet personally, so Strome is kind of the only big contract left that is in discussion.

Mostly just looking long term, Hayes contract expires before the year the Ducks have like $20 million needing to go to RFAs, just clears out space to help with being able to sign them all and stay under the cap. I have an unposted version of this (its kind of wonky) where I tried to guess all the RFA deals and somehow they don't fit under the cap so having Strome's $5 Mil off the books clears some space to help make that happen.

I think the Ducks would trade for Laine for the right price and if no better right shot wingers are available to them, but Zegras would be an untouchable in that trade. Not sure what else the Ducks would be willing to give up that Columbus would want as they are both supposed to be exiting rebuilds. Ducks main capital is draft picks and prospects who are not yet NHL ready, and I think Columbus would be wanting NHL ready players

The Blues will likely look to move one of Faulk, Krug, or Leddy, not necessarily because they're bad players but because the Blues need to get younger and cheaper. The problem with all 3 though is they all have a full NTC meaning they would likely turn down a trade to Anaheim. If I was trading Faulk I'd be looking for a 2nd and B prospect while taking back some sort of salary to make the deal feasible.</div></div>
Cap space is not an issue in Anaheim for the next two years, but Strome would be the guy sent back in my opinion if we were to dump salary. I feel like he could assume Hayes role if the Blues were willing to take his contract. Jackson Lacombe could also be available at LHD if STL is looking for a young, NHL ready defenseman. Ducks are also not likely to sign a lot of their RFA forwards, so could add like a Jones or Lundestrom as a sweetener. I think Faulk would be a great mentor pairing with Mintyukov and his contract is pretty ideal for Anaheim too. I would assume Anaheim is on his no trade list, but with him on the roster I think they could compete for a playoff spot, so could maybe convince him to waive

Ducks fan here, what would the cost be for Faulk? Someone else proposed Hayes and Faulk for the EDM 1st and two thirds. Does that get it done? I feel like Ducks need to add a bit, but curious what STL would be looking for in a return (Strome is available for cents on the dollar imo)

Ducks 24-25 Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mkhart</b></div><div>The way I saw it, Fowler will have 2 years left still and is unlikely to be traded. Between him, Minty, Zell, Lacombe, and Vaaks we have 5 defensemen for 3 slots. I think this season has shown having any of them play their off side negatively impacts their performance and healthy scratching Lacombe for 2 more years behind Minty/Zell/Fowler felt bad. Seemed like finding a trade partner to take Lacombe or Vaaks and having the other as a 7th defensemen felt palatable, and Lacombe probably nets the better trade return of the two where we can maybe get an upside winger. If we don't have a replacement for fowler in the pipeline when his contract is up finding a bottom pairing LHD defensemen at that time can be addressed with a short term free agency or another trade.
As far as the right side, I missed Verbeek saying Luneau has a spot next year. He has basically took this whole season off though because of his knee issue, so I wouldn't mind giving him AHL time just to start the year. If we draft Yakemchuck we could always give him a 9 game tryout and then send him back to play in World juniors by December and call up Luneau at that time. Obviously not necessary though, could make do with Lindstrom if necessary, and Fowler-Luneau is an awesome bottom pair if Verbeek sticks to his guns and Luneau is up the entire time next season.</div></div>
I agree with pretty much all of that, and thinking about it now, 3LHD is a pretty easy position to fill in free agency or by trade, so I kind of agree that losing Lacombe wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I like his game, but we could probably afford someone who is more defensively focused in that slot (like Vaaks). That said, I think you can justify Vaaks as a 7th D, but Lacombe probably shouldnt be in that role, so he is kind of the odd one out. Now you've got me working on a ACGM centered around trading Lacombe.

Ducks 24-25 Offseason
Interesting trade idea. Trading Lacombe seems a little short-sighted imo, as he can be the perfect 3LHD once the Fowler contract is up and the Ducks are properly competing. However, Fowler still has 2 years after this one and a 4 team trade list. Ducks could buy him out, but I just don't see that being a realistic option with all he has done for the franchise. Depends how the team sees Tyson Hinds and whether or not he can move up in two years to replace Cam. I'm not sure what Pat will do on the backend, but I would at least consider trading Lacombe. Pat did mention that Luneau is likely to be a full timer next season, so if Ducks did draft a RHD, they would not make the team next year. Lindstrom and Vaaks would be 7/8, and I could see the Ducks keeping 8 Defensemen up to start next season. Pesce, Roy, or even Demelo if he makes it to FA would be ideal options if Lacombe is gone (contract dependent). Same with the top 6 winger, with both of those signings, term could be a killer, so no move might be the best move if Ducks cant get shorter term deals.

I just don't think Warren has developed as well as we once had hoped, of course anything can change as it is still relatively early. I am very curious to see how he does in the AHL next year, that should tell us a lot. But as of right now, I see him maxing out at third pairing. That and Minty has exceeded expectations and I'm not sure Verbeek expected him to be our 1st pairing guy so soon, so while I think their games play well off each other, I am not so sure we ever actually see them paired up. I would love to be wrong though. All in all I think we are all on the same page, draft forwards and one defense first RHD who can potentially pair Minty. Good to know there are options for any of our first three picks though (assuming we can draw a late first for Rico)

Just read up a bit on him, seems like a perfect fit, more physical shutdown guy if he is available to us in the second round. Would be happy with either of those guys. He sounds like more of a project which actually might work best for us if the Ducks sign a stop-gap guy for 3-4 seasons while he develops. All I know is that we desperately need some defensive guys on the right with the offensive power coming through on the left, and the physical aspect of his game could be the perfect Gudas replacement.

Lacombe - Luneau
Zell - Warren

If Verbeek doesnt go Levshunov in the first round, I think EJ Emery is the guy in round 2. Defensive defensemen, right shot, good skater, good size if he fills out a bit, high compete, exactly the type of guy this prospect pool is in need of. Just imagine, Lindstrom/MBN and EJ Emery, I would be thrilled. https://www.capfriendly.com/scouting-reports/report/ej-emery-390751

The second is for Lundestrom if that is what you are referring to. Its hopeful for sure, but there should be a lot of teams looking for center depth and Lundestrom can be capable of a middle six center spot if given the chance to play with offensively gifted players. He would make a perfect third line center for a playoff team with more talent on the wings

Reinhart would be a great option as well, but again, we'd be paying a steep UFA tax.
I like Laine, I'm the one who proposed a swap with him and Zegras this morning, I think there's legitimately a fit there for both teams with some other window dressing to balance the value and needs of both teams.
The issue, if we go the UFA route, even with Henrique and Silf leaving in UFA, is that we will be overfull at forward.</div></div>
I still think the UFA premium on Reinhart prices him at a far more manageable and fair level than Nylander. Unless Columbus added more than fair value to the Laine - Zegras option, I am iffy on that trade. Maybe its just attachment to the guys we already have, but I just think that Zegras has yet to hit his ceiling, where Laine at 25 is closer to his and if Z popped off and became a superstar with Columbus, I would be very upset. The forward depth would definitely be too deep and guys would have to get waived if we dont shed a few in a trade. In an ideal world, a few of them are smaller pieces as part of a deal to bring in a RHD (I will continue to plug Rasmus Andersson).

I am a Jones guy, love his energy and play style on the ice, but even I am starting to question his role with this team. He's a locker room guy which is why it would be hard to see him go, but the bottom 6 winger cabinet is getting pretty full, and he just isn't showing the type of improvement I was hoping for. He is better than Johnston, but Johnston fights. Jury is still out on McGinn with this team, but I think he's looked pretty solid in his limited action. Carrick and Groulx can play center, and Leason has looked great to start the season. I agree with qualifying him, but at this point in the season, I would not give him anything more than that. I just don't know that he provides anything unique to the bottom of our line up. I am hoping to be convinced otherwise, but once we get more top of line wingers and start bumping down our second line to third, the space for him is limited.
