Another Rossi Idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>I think Hughes and Gorton are fine with a mixture of type of players. Drafting Slafkovsky, trading for Dach (big players), but also drafting Hutson, trading for Newhook (smaller skilled guys). I think from a depth perspective (and I consider Rossi a depth middle 6 player), simply adding more offense should be the focus. Rossi would accomplish this imo, and would 100% help the 2nd PP unit and overall add secondary scoring.
But I agree adding some more grit at forward should still be a focus for MTL. There's not much coming through the system aside from F.Xhekaj and Tuch. Hopefully MTL can draft someone with some size with their 1st rd pick...*cough* Lindstrom *cough*....
EDIT: Another small component that could be a benefit for MTL with Rossi specifically. It adds another fellow Austrian that could help Reinbacher.</div></div>
I don’t argue with the fact that Rossi would be a better offensive option at the moment that what we currently have. I just think that adding him wouldn’t make Mtl a better team in the long stretch. You can’t win in the playof with 5-6 under 6 foot forward. If you look at the latest cup winner they all have size. That why i don’t think they will target players like Rossi.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>I think it would depend on Hughes' plan for Newhook (keep him as a 3rd line Center, or a top 6 winger), and when they project their prospects like Beck, Mesar, or Kapanen to be pushing for roster spots.
A key focus for MTL is finding depth scoring. Apart from the Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky line, there was almost literally no offense being generated. Having a healthy Dach back will do wonders to help with this, but adding someone like Rossi would be a solid move imo. Really depends on the cost.
Barron is probably the player MTL would want to dangle (along with draft picks), but doesn't look like what MIN would be looking for...If MIN is looking to add physicality, and would target someone that Habs probably don't want to give up (but could be realistically ok letting go), I think Struble would be a target. Guy is an absolute unit and built like a truck. Xhekaj would be an obvious other candidate, but he's pretty controversial on here lol.
Struble + WINs 2024 1st for Rossi? Not sure I like it as a Habs fan, but seems pretty fair market value if there are multiple teams bidding for Rossi.</div></div>
Rossi is a fine players, but in my opinion he is not a solution. You can’t win with a small team. Adding Rossi would be making stationary. I just think Rossi is not a target even if he is available. Gorton and Hugues put a lot of emphasis on getting bigger. To me it doesn’t make sense for MTL management. Maybe if Mtl acquire him then ship him in another trade. But that would be it. I don’t see Rossi playing for the Habs in a near futur.
I wouldn’t pay more than one of Struble, Harris or Barron and the first of Winnipeg.

Habs would be looking at doing another Dach/Newhook type trade, and Rossi would be a good candidate / target for MTL. but we are talking moving draft picks here. Guhle is not for sale and should be considered an untouchable for MTL imo. So unless MIN would consider moving one of their untouchables, I don't see it happening.</div></div>
I doubt that Hugues target Rossi. They made it clear that they needed to get bigger up front on media day. Rossi is sure a good player but 0 physical.

Any Guhle trade would start with Boldy. Habs don’t need another small forward. Picks and prospect would need to be involved but that the only player that could interest Mtl.
Rossi is a good players but just not interesting for Mtl already small forward group.

How Quinn have cimented himself as a top 6 winger. He have 104 games pf experience. He suffer injuries this season and had a ok rookie season. Yes he show a lot of promises but cimented himself is maybe a big statement.
It make sense if you move a surplus to fix a need. We get it you don’t want to move Quinn. Ultimately there decision that need to be taken in a upcoming futur because there not enough roster spot for potential NHl top 9 forward. The same could be said for Mtl and their Defensive squad. It will happen at some point for both team if not they will lose assets when players need to go thru waivers.

Never said once that Quinn was a prospect.
Why Anaheim traded Drysdale for a prospect?
Why Colorado gave up Byram ?
Why team make trade?
To fill a need. Buffalo can keep all their current you g forward and al’ their prospect the number of spot won’t change. They will need only 9 talented forward when they are ready to compete. Defensively there lot of room for improvement. I understand you don’t want to trade Quinn but trading up to secure a Levshunov is not a bad move considering that Buffalo have a extra deep forward group. At some point developing and standing still might not be enough, Adams will have to address the need and start shaping the roster he will want to start competing for the cup.

I personally think if Buffalo would want to jump to 5if Levshunov is available it will take one of Quinn Or Peterka. No mather how piss off buffalo fan are this would be the cost. Value wise this trade is pin point i would say. Quinn haven’t established himself already but might have a higher ceiling then Peterka. Buffalo prospect pool are deep but they don’t have any Blue chip defender, so this make sense no mather what. Been over 10 seasons of missing playoff, maybe keeping all their prospect and developing is not the way to do thing. But i guess everyone won’t ever agree on trade proposition around here. I think you did a good job with understanding value and need for both team. Buffalo fan can continue to believe they have a good defender group but a team that ain’t the case.

Guhle impact aren’t quantifiable with stats. He ain’t being move because you need this kind of defenseman to win. Guhle is a horse who can shutdown top opponents. Guhle will play 22-25 min a night. Perfetti will get 17-19 if he reach full potential. Guhle impact the game in much more aspect than Perfetti who absolutely need to put point if he want to stay in the line up. Perfetti skating is still a issue. We have Joshua Roy who is a very similar player. Both have high hockey IQ but they are both not fast skater. I love Perfetti since is OHL debut but top pairing defenseman are so hard to found you don’t trade them.

What about Bernard-Docker, Lassi Thomson, Bjornfot, Valimaki, Ty Smith? Would you offer a 2nd for either of Soderstrom or Heinola right now?
I am not at all arguing that defensemen take longer to develop on average but it is factually correct that one you lose waiver exemption, if you are not an established NHLer your trade value plummets. There are hundreds of examples of this. Eli Tolvanen is a great one for example, look at his success despite being a waiver claim.</div></div>
Your assessment of Barron is what is wrong here. All those players except Bernard Docker, haven’t shown sign of improvement since being drafted. That not the case with Barron who have work on is defensive game a lot in the past year. Barron won’t pass thru waiver since Mtl have space to keep him. Barron have almost a 100 games of experience where he shown enough, now he just need to find the consistency. Mtl won’t gave up on a 22 years old promising a right handed defenseman when they don’t need to.

I do agree, i wouldn’t be shocked to see them making a blockbuster at the draft. They are a pieces or two away from playoff spot. They have a deep prospect pool and tons of draft capital. Now that they have a owner who can spend money on actual players and not on Ltir useless player they will use thay to their advantage.

You clearly don't see how relevant waiver exemption is. Once you loose exemption if you aren't an established NHLer your trade value plummets.</div></div>
I don’t agree at all with this statement. Lundkvist wasn’t by any means a established Nhlers at all. Dallas could have acquire a complete bust en lost him the next year via waivers. Dallas acquire him because they believe he was a players that could help them. If a team inquired about Barron it’s because they believe he can have a impact for them so waivers won’t even be a question mark. Barron is not 25 he is 22. Defenseman growth always take longer.
Rasmus Sandin landed a 1st round pick and he wasn’t waiver eligible and wasn’t a established defender. Best example would probably be Jake Bean. Carolina received a 2nd rounder for a defenseman who had less experience than Barron and also who was left handed. I just don’t by your theory. It would applied maybe on a player that haven’t shown any promise but it ain’t the case with Barron. He have shown he can play at a high level in the NHL, problem like i said is just consistency like most you g player. Barron still have top 4 potential despite not being a all star at 22 years old. Some scout are full aware of that and he still hold great value, i have absolutely no doubt about that.

When Vladar got to start more than the odd game every once in a while he was just fine. He's quicker than Marky with better reflexes and glove too. He'll be fine after getting surgery and with more practice as a starter / tandem goalie instead of getting thrown in on short notice most of the time.
You need to stop believing trash talk from the homers around here. When the worst trash talking homers like a trade involving their team it's because they're robbing the other team blind. The simple fact is most trade proposals that are good value for both teams and meet both teams' needs/wants are hated by the majority of both teams' fans.
