Its hard to properly express how bad those trades are for the Habs and Ducks.

TBH - you are likely looking at a Allen for Ryjo type of trade. just a flip.

Ullmark to LA - Lindholm and Hanifin via Free Agency
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CBA</b></div><div>Thanks for the feedback guys
I got to say some things tho since I didn’t elaborate
- I know Lindholm contract isn’t a nice one. I just went for the higher end that I think a team could give him. It could definitely be less.
- Ullmark trade : the 2025 1st round pick could be replace with a 2nd round pick & switch Jack Hughes for Arthur Kaliyev maybe ? Just spitballing.
- The backup position wasn’t that important. Any UFA vet on a 1 year deal or if management are good to go with Bussi/DiPietro, then be it</div></div>
worth noting, friedman made it sound like he thinks boston had the best offer in on lindholm, but wouldn't do it without an extension worked out - so vancouver got him. I'm guessing if they were offering 7x9, he would be a bruin now.

Nails bottom 3 lines
Bottom 6 prospect and a 5th isnt enough to eat Johansen and giveaway Kovacevic
Instead of that 1st for Dowd, give it to the Habs for Evans and Kovacevic and to eat the Johansen contract
Also for that Gourde package, at that price, id be asking for 50% retention on him

Why would the habs ever do that lol? If you want Barron, start by offering at least a 2024 first and another pick

How about you make the effort and do it yourself instead of another lazy take. I've done my part, that's on you now.
And hockey is about scoring more goals than your opponent, that's how you win a game, not by giving up a low amount of goals. If Zegras (and linemates) scores more goals but gives up more than Suzuki (and linemates) who scores less but gives up less... the net difference in results between the two players is zero.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habitantlecolon</b></div><div>hockey is a 200ft game. I'd rather build the offense aspect of a guy who's already suited on the def awareness part of the sport than build the def aspect of the game for an offense-first player.</div></div>
This is an exceptionally bad take.
First of all, I would argue that it is easier to get a young talented player to learn and improve defensively as long as they are willing (that is on coaching, culture, and systems) than it is to get a mediocre player that is decent defensively to get better offensively.
Second of all do you even watch Zegras play, or are you just running with that narrative? Here is his career numbers on the rebuilding Ducks in comparison to Suzuki's numbers on the rebuilding habs.
ZEGRAS: 47.14 GF%, 47.09 xGF%
SUZUKI: 46.65 GF%, 47.47 xGF%
I'd wager you think highly of Suzuki, and yet the net results and expected results in terms of Goal % between the 2 players are pretty similar.
For reference here is Kakko's numbers on the contending rangers:
KAKKO: 50.40 GF%, 49.64 xGF%
Not even that much better than Zegras and Suzuki playing mostly sheltered minutes on a contender. However what Suzuki and Zegras bring individually is way beyond anything Kakko does.

Because of acquisition cost or what? All things aside comparing the two players, Zegras >>> Kakko.

I think the habs could live to part with Barron and WPG's 2024 first round pick as well as 2 2nd round pick.
any scenario where the habs keep their 2024 and 2025 first round pick and their "untouchables" is a "GO" scenario.
By untouchables, I mean the Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf, Dach, Hutson, Ghule and Reinbacher. We have loads of picks for the future. Might as well use them to acquire some quality.

They will give the backup job to Bussi/DiPietro.
Don’t see Elias getting 9m.
But i’d say you are spot on in their thought process.

this aint it
Allen won't bring enough value to justify using a retention slot on him.
We would be better off buying him out if we can't get a team to take his full cap hit.
It will cost an extra ~$400k vs retaining and he'll get to sign anywhere he chooses for cheap.
The buyout cost the following year is only ~$750k, negligible.
Better off keeping Savard if that's the return as well.
If we don't make the playoffs next year he'll bring a better return as a rental than this.
If we do make the playoffs, we're going to need him.

In a vacuum, this is a fair deal. A 1st and a 3rd for the second best forward available (after Lindholm) would be good during most trade deadlines. However, Montreal was paid a 1st to take him and then signed him to a reasonable contract and then traded him away for another first and a third. Yeah, they WIN the overall transaction, even though Winnipeg are not the losers here. Calgary is certainly the loser here.

Good luck out there Monny!

And thus Kent Hughes completes what might be an unprecedented two-step of transactions, getting paid a 1st to take a player and then reselling that player for another 1st. Shoutout to Brad Treliving, we couldn’t have done it without you.
Anyway, fair deal. Monahan should be a good addition to the Jets roster, and people who are complaining about his EV points will likely be surprised by his output with better wingers.

Montreal gets a 1st round pick to help their rebuild. Trade away a pending UFA and still have a chance to resign him in FA
Winnipeg gets the best UFA center available to help with their playoff run. They have a very good prospect core so they can afford to trade a first. Get a 40-50 PT center who's young enough that they can resign long term if they'd like
Montreal W based on we literally got a 1st round pick for taking Monahan
