1st round
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kraken</b></div><div>A few suggestions:
</div></div>
Thanks for the feedback. Of course this is highly subjective and everyone will have very different evaluations. But I'll explain my logic on those picks:
Habs: Eiserman, because I think their greatest need is a left shot scorer. And he has such a sturdy build and I like the development path of NTDP into college for him. So I think it's a very safe pick compared to someone like Catton whose dynamic playstyle will be much harder to translate to the NHL, especially at his size and with the limited options he has in terms of league to play in in the next 2 years. It's like Cutter Gauthier compared to Matt Savoie.
Flames: O'boy they sure are depressing to look at. The typical route for teams like them that need everything is to build defense>center>wing. But defense is their least bad position, both in their roster and prospect pool. And if they pick Silayev then they wont be able sell a ticket in the upcoming years. So Catton is someone with high upside, by far the most likely of the remaining players to become a 1C, and super exciting to watch. So even if they'll suck, as what's left of their core approaches an average age of 35, at least they'll have an exciting young player to watch. As to Iginla and Helenius, I just don't think they have anywhere close to the potential of Catton, and Calgary isn't in a position to make lower risk / lower reward picks like that.
Devils: I guess the disagreement here is just whether or not Eiserman will be available at 10. I just think the public scouts are having an overreaction because his development haven't been as good as hoped. Last year he was considered 1st/2nd in this draft class by most public scouts. Maybe the pressure got to him, and he's just been squeezing his stick too hard. He's one of the youngest in the draft class and is going to a great college program, so I think the concerns of him not having rounded out his game this year are greatly overblown.
Sabres: 2 months ago I would've been all ears for Yakemchuk. But since adding Byram I just think they are too stocked up on offensively gifted, young defensemen to pick another one. It's always good to have talent in the pipeline though. But for that purpose I'd prefer Jiricek over Yakemchuk. I think he has more talent and has a lot more physical development left in him. So if one were to simmer in WHL/Europe/AHL for 4 or so years then I think Jiricek is the better player at the end of it. As to why Greentree, I think he has a toolkit that is sorely needed on the Sabres: the ability and willingness to absorb contact and maintaining the ability to make plays during contact, a Draisatl type. They don't have anyone like that, which makes it so hard for them to get through structured defenses.

If the Flames decides to rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>GM - gone. Director of Amateur Scouting - gone. Head European Scout - gone. I'm sure others had input but those were the guys calling the shots when it came to selecting a European prospect.
Hawks want to build their blue line to mimic Vegas, LA, Nashville. Big body, mobile guys who like to play a physical style and who block a ton of shots. That doesn't exactly sound like Joki to me.</div></div>
The head European scout and head scout, Niklas Blomgren, is not gone. Neither is their director of European scouting nor head western scout. So all the guys that would've done most of his scouting are still there. As are a ton of people on the development and management side. There is definitely a ton of people left in the Blackhawks organization that like this player a lot in the past.
What makes you think they want to build their blueline with the type of player you're describing?

Lol what? I just teased him a bit because he phrased himself poorly. Obviously there was far more people than that involved in the decision to draft Jokiharju. You seriously can't believe anything else. Like he played in both Finland and the WHL. European scout, NA scout and head scout is the minimum amount of scouts being involved in the decision, and then there's obviously a ton of management people involved.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>Yeah Bowman, but really Mark Kelley is/are gone. I agree with JK74 though. I was PISSED when they traded him for Alex Nylander. I liked his game and he was getting good minutes as a rookie. Of course he made rookie mistakes like all rookies do. Coach Q didn't put up with that which was a weakness of his toward player development. BUT, to your question, The Hawks need a physical veteran on the right. I'd prefer over paying for demelo or Roy or etc... we have 3 rookies on the left side right now (Tinordi plays, but I consider him the #7 as other rookies rotate in). No reason to lose a 2nd.</div></div>
Aight.

Chicago had 3 people involved in the 2017 draft? And I thought Buffalo was a poverty franchise... :)
Why is he not the type of player they want on their blue line going forward?

Lol this whole post is based on the premise of them rebuilding as opposed to just retooling... If they aren't rebuilding and want to keep all their ageing players that still have trade value then this is all a non-starter.
Not going to bother with the rest of your comment. If you think there's a meaningful distinction for an owner to pay someone not to work for them and this player then being signed by a competing team, and them doing the exactly same thing but it's called retention instead of buy-out then I'm not going to try to stop you. :)

You might get a 2nd for him from another team but I'm 99.9% sure Chicago wouldn't be interested.</div></div>
He's been very good this year. Defends well and does smart decisions with the puck. I think he would make sense for Chicago as they'll have to start getting better, they could use a 25 year old RD, they already have plenty of size so his 6' flat shouldn't be an issue, and there are surely plenty of people in the organization that likes his game since they drafted him.

If the Flames decides to rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Flames are rebuilding but you are on drugs if you think any owner would ever agree to pay someone 15 million to play for another team. Even with San Jose's Hertl trade they are paying him ~8M total spread across 6 years.
Also Flames would decline that anyways, Maybe Byram + Savoie for Weegar but certainly not Kadri retained too</div></div>
Teams pays amounts like that all the time. Like Nashville are currently paying Johansen, Duchene and Turris $33M not to play for them. Philly and Minnesota are paying about $15M each for Hayes, DeAngelo, Suter and Parise not to play for them. That's what happens with bad contracts.
But sure, even if they decide to rebuild the owners might rather just give Kadri away, or even keep him for a year or two then pay a 1st to get rid of his contract, rather than retaining on him and get an up and coming star from Alberta in Savoie. I think that's stupid though so that's why I don't suggest that.

Sabres
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>Apologize for my initial post.
Buffalo is extremely high on Power (signed 7 year contract) and Peterka (our leading goal scorer at 22 years old on an ELC) and would not at all be interested in this trade.
It frankly was a shocking trade to see</div></div>
Of course. The only realistic move is Adams signing 1-2 4th liners, so that wouldn't be very interesting to draw up. This is what I want to happen, not what I think will happen.
Because Power lacks the necessary aggression I think this team needs from such a pivotal role. And his potential is wasted (and too costly) on the 2nd pair, playing behind both Dahlin and Byram. I don't think Dahlin and Byram on the top powerplay is a good long term plan, so this solves that. And I think a playmaker is desperately needed on the powerplay and in the top6 in general as Thompson and Cozens are shooters, and it would be much more beneficial to have a playmaker activating them than it is to have yet another shooter in Peterka.
