They offered Askarov + #15 last year for #5 so this seems fair if they plan to re-sign Saros for 6+ years.

Yeah exactly that’s what I was thinking .

Askarov + 15 for 5 was declined by Montreal
Askarov + 22 + 54 for 7th . I don’t mind adding a 4th too

When do you he's NHL ready? Next season or give him 1 in Belleville first?

Just run Korpi + Askarov then buy out Korpi or try and trade him next off season?

Probably depends who is still around at #7.

Catton perhaps…aren’t many centers at top of draft.

I like it. If NSH is serious about signing Saros long-term Askarov will waste a lot of his prime years as a backup or 1B at best. He's got great potential but NSH is one of the few teams that have an elite goalie if they lock up Saros.
If Askarov lives up to his potential OTT becomes scary good in the next few years with Stu, Tkachuk, Batherson, Sanderson, Chabot, Askarov core.

Montreal declined because they really wanted Reinbacher. Try again

they valued Reinbacher more than askarov as they should.

no chance OTT does thins the difference between the 2 picks is far greater than askarov and a 2nd. Very bad trade for OTT.

Yeah, because it's Ottawa's pick, I forgot.

If it's not 3 firsts for one of Ottawa's assets athrin declines. Thank god you're here and not in the office. You might run the Sens into a worse direction than theyve been going

But the plan last year, when he offered Askorov to move up, was to do it specifically for a top-6 center. Presumably for Smith, Carlsson, or Fantilli.

Trotz even went on record later saying he may have gotten too aggressive.

After Celebrini...only two guys would be Catton or Lindstrom. Catton probably gone by 7oa...and maybe Lindstrom too if CBJ, MTL, UTA buy his health prognosis.

I'd try something around Pinto or Norris.

Neither of those 3 were making it to 5. Sens arent moving Pinto anytime soon

He apparently offered same package (Askorov, two 1sts) to both SJS and MTL (conditional on one of the top centers falling).

I think there was some guessing Michkov could have gone ahead one of the centers.

Askarov + Liam Greentree level prospect + Alfons Freij level prospect is not a bad return man.

Trotz before draft:
"We've got lots of picks and I'm trying like hell to get a, say, top four or five pick. But you need a dance partner; teams are not going to give it to you. So I'm trying to make them uncomfortable with a lot of offers. They know there's a franchise player in there."

Trotz after draft:
"Well, it wasn’t for a lack of trying Wednesday from his replacement as GM. Barry Trotz tried all he could to get into the top five but just couldn’t pull it off. He especially targeted the Sharks at No. 4 with a final offer that made even Trotz wonder if he was offering too much.
“When you talk about uncomfortable, it’s what you think is over-giving,” Trotz said after the first round.
“The center-ice position, especially with the first four guys, I thought the value was there,” Trotz said of his offers. “And (the offers) fill holes that they were looking for as well.”
It’s believed Trotz offered up 21-year-old goalie prospect Yaroslav Askarov to San Jose and Montreal, which had the No. 5 pick, as part of bigger packages. But no go.
“Again, I will say, I was getting uncomfortable,” Trotz said.

One rumor had Askorov plus two 1st round picks...
Multiple sources indicated to Nashville Hockey Now that a proposal of Askarov plus the No. 15 and 24 overall picks still wasn’t enough for Montreal to pull the trigger on a trade back.
“I was trying like crazy (to entice a team to trade), but if you look at those four franchises up front, they were pretty (adamant on drafting a player) at the center-ice position. I think all four of those got good quality people to build around. I tried like crazy to get them uncomfortable, but obviously it wasn’t enough.”

he aint nothing special... its all hype, he aint worth the price, man Sogaad has slightly better numbers than him.... even SPENCER KNIGHT had better numbers with MUCH more games played compared to Askarov prior to 2021.

the numbers dont lie

the fact that TWO teams refused 2 first round picks and askarov should make you think long and hard.

your point? moving down 15 spot for G that has no better numbers than what Sogaard and has only player 3 nhl games is asinine to be nice. and the fact you and csick think askarov is going to be better than Plante, Dryden, Roy and Brodeur combined those teams should have jumped at the chance to get him AND TWO not one but TWO first round picks....stop believing the hype....remember when Spencer Knight was the next anointed superstar G....ya that turned out well

Belleville Senators AHL 32 2.45 0.916 | PLAYOFFS 6 2.46 0.910

Milwaukee Admirals AHL 44 2.39 0.911 | PLAYOFFS 5 3.25 0.882

apart from the hype around him what makes you think he is elite, remove the hype and he is just another G prospect that aint impressing anyone but those who believe the hype.

Okay now do their age. Askarov is 21 but when he is 23 he would be an NHL starter and Sogaard at 23 was worse than Korpisalo and Forsberg in the NHL games he played. He was drafted at #11 for a reason. Sogaard ain't even a top 20 goalie prospect in the NHL, at best he is a backup goaltender in the future.
