Dude said his idea is if Demi doesn't drop to 5. Not sure the show or if it was national, but I was driving in range of Vancouver stations. Montreal wouldn't do this... right???
The Habs don't entertain a trade for #5 that brings in someone closing in on 30 y/o. Maybe Winnipeg's 1st and one of our young Dmen ie Struble/Harris/Barron
Rebuilding teams are famous for trading multiple futures (including top-5 picks) for rental 29 year olds.
Obviously Montreal doesn't do this.
The word going around is they're tired of accumulating prospects and want a top6/top4 RD veteran or two. That was also part of his rationale, I should have included it.
And like I said, I can't imagine Montreal goes that extreme with it.

Word from where? Because it definitely not from Montreal or insiders. The closest I've seen to that is limited interest in Zegras/Necas, and spending on a UFA with a low term, high AAV offer.

change Buch for Kyrou, change Kessel for Snuggerud

I kinda assumed he was including those guys as vets. Maybe not. But I thought one of those "insiders" said something like that, maybe Friedman. Dunno, I don't really pay attention to that ilk.

Do you think Thomas and Kyrou are the same kind of vet as Buchnevich?
Or from a Habs POV, do you think Suzuki and Caufield are the same kind of vet as Matheson?

Lets say the blues had a top 5 pick, imagine i go on this site to tell you the blues would rather trade this pick and a late first for a 70 point rental winger because ''they are tired of accumulating prospect'' . how crazy would you think i am.
If it was a weaker draft I could see this as a starting point. Potential of getting a guy like Dickinson to anchor your blueline for 10+ years at #5 is too hard to pass upon though.

I told you no such thing.
Seriously, what part of I do not for one second think the Habs would do this is not getting through to some folks? I've said it like four times now.

I'm trying to make you use your brain. I get you said MTL wouldnt so this. You provided someone's else rationale of why the habs would be tempted to do this and i just applied the same situation onto the blues to potentially show its not a rationale that makes sense. (in my opinion).

That would be an amazing thought exercise if the Blues and Habs were in the same situation, with the same needs, and operated the same as organizations.
However, at least two of those things are not the case. I cannot speak with any authority on whether they operate in a similar manner, but I'd guess not.
And I wasn't providing his logic to advocate it, just to relay it.
