Great signing... probably gonna get an increased role as a result of turnover within the roster

But his xABCDEF/60 proves that he’s a bottom pair AHL defenseman smh

Amazing contract, should get some more ice time this season I would imagine, amazing defense and I think we made the right choice in terms of the right side of the defense. Chatmandu is back

It's a bit high for a third-pair guy, but I voted yes because I think he can do more, and if Pesce's gone he probably will be able to step into his role. The term is reasonable for a guy his age. A late bloomer but I think he's for real.

We had Orlov making 7.75 on the third pair last year lmao

I'm not dismissive of Chatfield's ability to play second-pair, but I will say that there were some struggles with high-danger chances this postseason teamwide because of the Pesce injury. A three year deal at a cap hit right in between the 2nd and 3rd pair average is the perfect sort of trial balloon for him. If it works out, it's incredible value for a second-pair, but if it doesn't, it's a relatively seamless slot back into premium-3rd pair minutes.

Only the Hurricanes would let Guentzel go, and prioritize signing a 3rd pair D man to more than he's worth! LOL

Don't think that guy is able to think without bias. So who cares..
Good contract for JC. Allows him to make 2nd pair money by his late 20s, which is nice.

Solid signing. idk if he could be a 2nd pair D for a full year, but definitely could do well in that role short-term. Good for him though, he's earned it.

In my last Toronto ACGM I had the Maple Leafs signing him for $3.25 x 4, so this is a good deal for both player and team.

After that postseason where he played a second pairing role I don’t think many Canes fans are worried about him making the jump to it full time

Using a playoff run isnt the best to judge how someone will do a full season as I have seen it happen a few times and it did not go well for respected teams

Could he do it sure but I got a feeling CAR may still go another RD to push him to third pair

This FA is loaded with a lot of good RD so its a wait and see

Nah. Theyd only do that if they plan on moving Burns. Morrow is gonna play this year

Why rush the kid. See what he can do in the AHL before throwing him into the NHL

As if the confidence gets shot to soon can end very badly

I think he's ready. Wasn't lacking any confidence when he played 2 games at the end of the season.

Also, I'm pretty sure he only signed because he was going to have the chance to play in the NHL. He could've been a UFA if he didn't sign so soon.

Good signing, especially with the high demand for RDs at the moment.

It was a shock to see a non-league min deal after so long

$3 million is too much for a 3rd pairing defencemen. And he's already 28, so he's likely won't get better next year.

He's probably going to be a middle pairing guy

Could have got more AAV and term as a free agent IMO. Big RHD able to play playoffs hockey. A steal for Carolina.
