Berggren & Johansson won't get that much and Veleno will be in the lineup or he's traded.

Also: Johansson should take the 2nd pair RD spot or we sign a TRUE top 4RD. Hakaanpää is just another body that plays too high in the lineup then he should.

Columbus says no just because we can't retain 2.7 for 3 years. It's just to much deadcap for to long. That the buyout would only be more expensive for one year. Bring the retainment down and we can talk.

A rental and a LhD don't interest us as part of a Zegras trade. We'd want either Nate Danielson or Axel Sandin Pellikka plus the first, and I don't see Stevie Y doing that. (He's not really a trader, is he?)

Yeah, I’m prob a tad high on both those kids.

I just like Hakanpaa next to Edvinsson. Big, physical, defensive defenseman would be ideal for the rookie.

Not to mention that ASP being sub-6ft probably takes him off of Verbeek’s list, and Danielson has a lot to prove still. I just don’t see a Zegras trade to DET

Isles decline. There's not really an improvement here.

First off Walman is not a rental, two years remaining on a great contract for a first pairing D-Man.

Danielson and Sandin-Pellikka > Zegras.

The reports are out, they are shopping Zegras. He is coming off his worst year and his value is at its lowest.

DeBrincat is a higher value player and was traded for a late 1st (25th OA), bottom six player and B-C level prospect.

With that as a model, a trade would look like Zegras for 2025 1st (top-15 protected), Rasmussen, and Alexandre Doucet (you could change the prospect up a level to William Wallinder and lower the current player to Joe Veleno or Robby Fabbri).

First off, Fabbri is a rental.

Second, Walman is a LhD.

Third, no credible reports have us shopping Trevor Zegras.

Fourth, the hilariously ridiculous idea that two kids, neither of whom has ever played a single NHL game and one of whom has never even played a single professional hockey game on the North American continent, are right now more valuable than a 0.73 PPG proven top-6 forward is typical hopeful homerism. There is a gulf of difference between potential, even projected potential, and proven performance.

Fifth, as I recall, DeBrincat was traded for pick #7, pick #39 and pick #72.

You stand corrected.

I miss-read the rental AND Lhd comment as you referring to only Walman, I stand corrected with that.

As to DeBrincat: July 9th, 2023, Alex DeBrincat traded for Dominik Kubalik, Donovan Sebrango, 2024 4th rounder, 2024 1st (Wings send the worst of our pick or Boston, we sent Boston pick 25OA).

And 1st round potential always carries a high value. Anaheim literally just paid a premium to get Cutter, a guy who hadn't at that point stepped on NHL ice. His value is 100% potential.

DeBrincat was traded at 24 (one year older, and thus one year closer to free agency, than Trevor Zegras is now) on July 7, 2022 for pick #7, pick #39 and pick #72. Ottawa traded him a year later under contract distress.

When Debrincat was dealt from Chicago he was a two time 40 goal scorer. Zegras has decent value but thinking he would command a return like Chicago got is crazy. 15 OV, Walman and a B prospect is very fair value for Zegras after a poor season. Not saying Anaheim should take the trade but the value should be there.

I didn't imply, let alone say, that Anaheim should get the return for Zegras that Chicago got for DeBrincat. In fact, I affirmatively said the exact opposite: that Anaheim should get an A prospect and a high first-round draft pick. I was responding to an argument that DeBrincat got less than the offer shown when he was traded, and I was pointing out that the two circumstances are not comparable.

Why are you impervious to grasping the fact that Walman is a redundant LhD -- a fact I mentioned twice -- or that there is a difference between having a bad year and being injured for 51 games? The offer isn't close to being sensible for Anaheim.

I don't think impervious was the word you were looking for there but regardless the offer of 15, Top 4 D and a B prospect is likely fair value for a player like Zegras at this point in his career in my opinion. I have no clue if Anaheim would want Walman or not.....
