    That is a real meager return for a top of the lineup 50 point RD. Bjugstad isn't likely to hit 45 points with the canucks as he won't get the minutes he got in Arizona and that was a career year for him. Not likely to repeat itself at 31.

    Tanev is simply not a replacement for Hronek and why piss off our best player and captain by trading away the guy he himself said was his most talented D partner ever? Tanev is also 35 soon and his play will likely fall off sooner rather then later. Hronek can man our #1 RD spot for the next 5-8 years.

    The 1 year Costco membership was a nice touch.

    What is Hronek asking for $? No-one denies he is, and has been with Canucks, an effective player. But if he is asking for more than Canucks are willing to pay - can’t see too many teams giving up too much for him.
    Canucks aren’t in a great spot - if they don’t move him and don’t sign him, he is eligible for arbitration. He takes the one year deal and then walks to FA. Will be interesting to see how this shakes out

    Why are Canucks so eager to trade away Hronek after needing a top 4 RHD for so long?
    San Jose accepts as long as it's not a business membership.

    Because Hronek's agent thinks he should become our highest paid defenseman. (Supposedly wants 8m) some of us think he not worth it to Canucks to keep him at that high of price as it will effect bringing in improvements and even keeping some of the other core players. Also imo even if he is re-signed he needs to spend time away from Hughes to show his real worth and to help make the defence stronger.

    I like Hronek but I'm willing to bet on Hughes, and this team, without him. We don't know the dynamic between Hughes and Hronek. That said, I'd rather split them up if they can add a Tanev-like player to the mix. Hronek was pretty invisible come the playoffs and they barely give him PP time. His stats without Hughes are not great. I like him but the $ he is asking for is a problem. And, Willander will be up soon and he'll be pushing for PP2 time.

    Crowse is the bigger piece. Bjugstad replaces Blueger at a really good $.

    Because Hughes could turn Justin Holl into an all-star. I'm happy to keep him but I don't see a big need for an offensive RHD especially with Willander soon to be up. PP2 doesn't get ice time. Hronek is really good but not $8M/yr good. I saw Soucy move the puck from behind the net a lot in the playoffs (absolute bargain that turned out to be) but I want to see Hronek do that away from Hughes.

    Joshua, lindholm and Tanev all under paid by 1M
    Hronek.. going to get paid by someone but once Hughes is not next to him, he'll be a cap friendly dump that contract all star the next 4-5 yrs. Hronek will be the biggest extension mistake for someone in the off season.

    I'm so tired of this "he can't make more then Hughes" trope/excuse. Paying Hronek 8 mil doesn't mean squat. It's just how the business works. Dead cap era is over, cap has gone up and Hughes signed his deal 3 years ago when the cap was 81.5. When Hughes hits free agency in 3 years he's going to get 13+ million dollars.

    Ya, that's fine but not a huge bar with some of the partners Hughes has had. With how the D looked initially before making the Hughes-Hronek pairing, I was hoping they would give it a try and it worked well.

    Possession numbers bumped up along with goals for and against compared to the Hughes-Bear pairing but Hronek fell off pretty hard in the last half the season and in the playoffs. As a pair, they were actually negative +/- and just barely over 50% shots for in the playoffs. Hronek has to do more.

    I agree with you that Hughes deal isn't a good ceiling for the reasons you listed but I don't think Hronek is an $8M guy. He's not elite. He's probably due for a deal like Weegar or Severson got but give it a bump for cap increase.

    Joshua at 4m can get it elsewhere rather honestly 3-3.25m is getting too rich for my blood he has had 1 good season at 27. He wasn't consistent in the playoffs I'd rather throw less at guys like Duhaime, Trenin, Heinin, or Noesen or give Podkolzin that spot.

    I think Tanev gets 5m for 2 years 4.5rm for 3 or 4m for 4 which has risks but might be what we need to do where his last year is LTIRetired.

    Joshua has the Goodrow profile written all over him. Someone will say we need toughness who can score a bit
    Tanev had a ton on interest at the deadline and if the term is only 2 yrs then I think 5M happens. If it goes to 3 or 4 the $ will comes down but there will be a bidding war for both
