The sens aren't a Marner away from being a playoff team and that's a bit rich even if he comes extended

Would hate to see Drake go but that's definitely a piece that would make it palatable, same goes for Chych. Goaltending would still be a question mark but bringing Melo back would be huge.

Curious to see what Leafs fans say but value-wise I'm intrigued.

a top 6 winger and a top 4 dman for a player who wants out plus a first is insanely good for Toronto

Top 6 and top 4 on a terrible team (I am not interested in either player), and a late 1st is not a good return.
But my and your opinion doesn’t matter. Time will tell but I’m very confident in stating Marner doesn’t waive for Ottawa (major step down in terms of market, organization &team) and the leafs won’t trade him in division (if he’s even moved)

Bro stop lol. Bath and Chych would be a top 6 / top 4 on a majority of teams in the NHL. If you think UFA even as good as Marner is getting a better deal than that then good luck.

Oh yea he won't waive for Ottawa I agree but Batherson scored 30 ON a terrible team, if anything that gives him more value plus you still have to be GOOD to score 30 goals

if anything the fact they put up top 4/6 stats on a terrible team gives them more value

And Marner has never said he wants out, he (& JT) have consistently said they don’t want out. No problem to come on here and spout all the opinions you want but stick to facts.

I mean they obviously aren't going to say "I want out trade me now" JT is pretty obviously going to stay. But you are probably right Marner doesn’t want out. Regardless still good value for a player with 1 year left

Its decent, not remotely insanely good. Marner for Tkachuk would be something I feel most Leaf fans would be super happy about. And Marner would likely do a tonne of good things for Ottawa, his defensive play would be a good addition. But i imagine that would only happen if both players wanted or agreed to get out of their situation.

Tkachuk has a little thing called 4 years left on his contract. Marner doesn't.

Tkachuk is an elite winger and is the captain of the senators you aren't getting him even if Marner comes extended

The 1 year thing is so misguided. He has a full NMC, if he is going to waive it, do you think he isn't going to be interested in signing there? Of course he will, he will likely give a handful of destinations that he'd be interested in going to and then trade negotiations would start. Once some acceptable packages emerged, contract negotiations will take place and the trade will happen with an extension in place. Marner isn't a rental, everyone absolutely knows thats the case but they make up every excuse to make that not reality so they can see TO get hosed.

Marner will bring back a major return. From who? I don't know but it will be several teams interested.

Calle Jarnkrok has produced at a higher rate (points / 60, 5v5) than Batherson over the past two years. Is he a top 6 winger?
Batherson scored 8 5v5 goals in 22-23 & 21 in 23-24 playing top 6 minutes; Jarnkrok scored 27 in same timeframe playing less games and less minutes. no thanks to that production at $5M.
Pointless argument - we’re not going to agree; every player on the SENs is overrated by their fans; team consistently misses playoffs year after year but their players are fantastic🤷🏻.
I am confident stating (& would bet money) that Marner does not waive for Ottawa (big step down in terms of organization, team and fanbase) & I don’t see Leafs moving him in division.

I am aware, but do you think Marner would waive his NMC if he wasn't interested in signing a contract? Likely would do a sign and trade so he could get his 8th year of security. So Marner for effectively 9 years for 4 years of Tkachuk, would be the trade. A 1 for 1 is what it would be. And while I think Marner is better than Tkachuk, I would do the trade. I think it would be the better mix for TO and Marner becoming the guy may help him figure himself out a bit without constantly living in the same spotlight as Matthews and Nylander.

He’s never scored 30; stop fabricating or I can move on. No time for people who misstate facts. I pointed out in other comment his 5v5 production is weak; Calle Jarnkrok out produces him as do hundreds of other wingers in the league. PP production is valuable but much less than 5v5; also no room for him on Leafs PP

I would hope for better than Batherson but this is far and away one of the best I have seen on this site. I would want something else but this isn't terrible. I just get annoyed with the 1 year argument Its so dumb. He absolutely is going to want to sign where he waives to go. Why would he waive to be traded to a city he doesn't want to sign in? Its ridiculous. So if he gets traded it will likely come with an extension, perhaps an 8 year one, so it would be 9 seasons of Marner, not 1. And that has absolutely immense value.

Ok fine a 28 goal guy, and a top 4 dman plus a first for a player with one year left who controls where he goes if a fair deal

There has been some smoke in Ottawa around Tkachuk. He does strike me as a guy who'd just get fed up and want out if he felt the team was going nowhere. I have mentioned, that wouldn't be likely unless something like that happened. And if it did, Marner would come with an 8 year extension.

Huge overpay for rental Marner. It'd be an overpay even if he came with an extension giving him a big haircut.

LMAOOOOOOOOOO, bro you are actually a clown I can't even tears of joy Jarnkrok has a career high of 39 points, he can't even hold Bathersons jockstrap. Sens have more playoff success in the Matthews era than Toronto big guy, keep holding onto those extra 4 games a year!!

Agree to disagree:
Batherson is overrated; Jarnkrok produces more at 5v5 (best measure of player’s productivity) for less than half the cap hit, and is better defensively
Chychrun is average to below average 2nd pairing LHD & pending UFA ; definition of meh
1st is late

Worst part is we move Marner but gain very little cap space; really only reason to move him imo.
No chance Marner waives for Ottawa so pointless discussion
