The value is good on the Benson trade, the issue is that the return is exactly what the Sabres don't need. I could only see the Sabres trading Benson for a legit top line winger.

There’s less than zero chance he’s traded.

I don't see them wanting to pay hronek for offense that dahlin, power, and Byram are supposed to provide. Add a defensive d with a mean streak, it'll cost less, and it rounds out the roster better.

Seeing how well Hronek worked with offensive minded Hughes I actually think he would be a good fit for Dahlin. The Sabres have the cap space to take him on so I am not too sure if the money would be the deciding factor? It is more about amplifying Dahlin, which i believe is what Hronek is best at.

Buffalo doesn’t trade Benson

Its funny because I actually think I'd prefer Peterka, but I felt like the fan base is biased by the shinny new toy (Benson)...and in truth if the Canucks did want Benson they could have drfated him ahead of Buffalo.

If we trade Hronek it’s to get a proven legitimate top 6 winger to play with Pettersson. Benson could become that but isn’t one right now which is what we need

Trading Hoglander and a 1st for Jokiharju and a 2nd doesn’t make any sense either. Hoglander > Jokiharju and 1st > 2nd

You broke that down very different then I did...

Hoglander and the 1st <-------> Benson
Hronek <--------> Jokiharju and the 2nd

As mentioned above, I actually would rather have Peterka, but I assumed most Canucks fans on this site wouldn't even know who he is haha

Hronek is worth far more than Jokiharju and a 2nd

Peterka or Quinn would be great but I don’t think Buffalo would move either

I think that most of us will be very disappointed in the Hronek return if he is traded...

He just had the best season of his career after being traded for a mid 1st and an earlyish 2nd. He’s worth a lot more than you’ve proposed here

If you want to get into the details on why this wouldn’t work, I certainly can. Buffalo can’t afford Hronek’s next contract with having 3 (soon to be 4) longer contracts already on the books on the D side. Hoglinder doesn’t offset Benson’s upside, and the second this year is close in value to what would be assumed a late first the year after. In a vacuum, the value is fine, possibly tilted Buffalo’s direction. But with team structure it just doesn’t work (and JJP is more off limits than Benson is)

I think the Sabres would trade Benson in the right deal, but unless the player coming back is names Tkachuck they won't move Peterka.

I could see them trading Benson in a deal for Konecny or Cirelli, if he was the main price being traded.
