With retention of 2.5 million you’re getting JT at what I would say is roughly what he is worth currently, so you’re going to have to pay for that and for the Leafs to retain. Rielly Smith and Pittsburghs 2nd in 2024 could work

Leaf fans probably want a first for Tavares, but I think he would be fetch a 2nd rounder for a team in a cup window.

Why would the Sharks pay a third to take on Rakell's contract? PO is maybe interesting but not Bemstrom

thought bemstrom could compete for a spot but ok.

poj has big potential that it's not going to flourish with the pens cuz we already have tanger and karlsson

as for rakell he is a good player. sure he had a bad season but he is a skilled veteran that could play with the top kids you will draft or already have and help them out. he is also a good playmaker so he can help on that front as well.

Both POJ and Bemstrom are mid 20's fringe/bottom of the line-up NHL'ers. They don't really provide any value at all to the Sharks, and would really just take roster spots from younger players with potentially more up-side.

Rakell is still a good player, and the Sharks do need some reasonably good veterans to fill out the line-up next season so you're right on that point. But he's 31 making 5 mil a year for the next four seasons. There's just no way the Sharks would go for it.

The prospects in the Rakell deal are zeroes. Rakell is in decline as a 31 yrs old with 4 yrs left. that is not going away for free. Plus your GM is Dubas who tends to overpay to move out players
