So we are retaining on a winger who slightly underperformed on his contract for 1 year, for a young guy who is underperforming and has a decently high cap hit + term, yeah he could bounce back and grow, but idt we should be retaining at all. Smith, if he is traded, will not cost us assets or have us taking a cap dump back to move. Rust was one of our best players last year, if you think hes gonna fall off then sure probably will see regression eventually, but nothing from his play this year supports that happening anytime soon. People really be overblowing EK65, it’s getting old lol, he was top 5 in creating high danger chances, it’s not 100% his fault that the team around him had a problem finishing. Also, while id argue they are both overpaid, EK65s contract is worse because of the term, and the pens were the only real team that can take it one because of the looming rebuild. I see EK having a bounce back year, hopefully around PPG, but in no way should Toronto make that trade.
