Description
I don't now it Jesperi's value is that low, but I know Canes fans think he is overpaid right now. Obviously Kyle Dubas loves his guys, and there are rumors he's in on Marner, and that the Leafs want Karlsson. And God get him off of this team. Bryan Rust is not playing up to par for that contract, and the Penguins need more defense anyway. He is a defensively minded player and would fit well on New Jersey. Plus I loved John Marino in the Burgh, and we need to put him back with Petey. PO Joseph is a solid defenseman, and has a big frame and can skate, which fits perfectly into what Toronto seems to want. I would say he's maybe a seventh defensemen, but depth is crucial. I think Kyle will have more success with his system in the Burgh, because his stars can protect themselves. His ideas of taking abuse to gain power plays works because these players know the line and mark it well. I assume Marner will sign an extension here, but I don't think he will come with one.

A lot to unpack here BUT if you are reacquiring Marino, why not pair him with Graves to get Graves going since they were great together in NJD?

Pass from Carolina. The only reason they'd move the 23 year old is if they're clearing cap. This doesn't do that. If you want KK, you're likely going to have to pay a lot more than you want

Bro what. The Penguins can buy low here because they aren't pressed against the cap. Nor will they be because they aren't going to be signing new deals for a while. They don't have any stake in this because they need to rebuild and its going to happen whether they want it to or not. And what happens if he regains form and becomes a star? Plus, does anyone really think Sid's gonna take more than 8.7. And I guess Marner needs resigning, but I doubt he actually wants much more than 10.5.

NO.
that contract is unmovable. That cap hit is way to high, the contract is way to long. Assets coming back with that, if and when they are ready to tank.

So we are retaining on a winger who slightly underperformed on his contract for 1 year, for a young guy who is underperforming and has a decently high cap hit + term, yeah he could bounce back and grow, but idt we should be retaining at all. Smith, if he is traded, will not cost us assets or have us taking a cap dump back to move. Rust was one of our best players last year, if you think hes gonna fall off then sure probably will see regression eventually, but nothing from his play this year supports that happening anytime soon. People really be overblowing EK65, it’s getting old lol, he was top 5 in creating high danger chances, it’s not 100% his fault that the team around him had a problem finishing. Also, while id argue they are both overpaid, EK65s contract is worse because of the term, and the pens were the only real team that can take it one because of the looming rebuild. I see EK having a bounce back year, hopefully around PPG, but in no way should Toronto make that trade.

Bryan Rust just scored at a 37 goal, 74 point pace - how is that not worth 5mil? Also, why would you say "god get him off this team' in regard to EK?
