The Sharks are pretty likely to be bottom 5 again next year, I dunno if they want to trade a top 40 pick to move up to 23rd.

So, why does Nashville make the trade? Why does Nashville sign Marner to a long term deal?
Folks don't seem to grasp the concept of UFAs. They don't have to be resigned. Teams don't necessarily get compensation for a UFA.

If you tell Marner you're refusing to negotiate an extension with him, why would he do you the favour waiving his NMC? I wouldn't do anything to help TOR in that situation, if I were him.
