Created by: Jco5ta5
Team: 2024-25 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: May 9, 2024
Published: May 9, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hawks pick Demidov #2OA
Hawks pick Carter Yakemchuk #10OA

This draft now fills the RHD and Bedard high end winger roles for the future.

Read trade description please. I used the website below for trade value. 10 for 20 and 33 comes out to almost exactly the same point value.

CHI
  1. 2024 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Devils don’t have a 2nd round pick and they’ve got a plethora of young talent both in NHL and prospects. They move down to #20 and pick up #33
NJD
  1. 2024 1st round pick (TBL)
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Hawks move up to #10 to grab a RHD and fill that gaping hole in the pipeline. They are bursting at the seams with prospects and could use a higher end talent.

A team that has a good plethora of prospects is unlikely to trade down to take, in theory, less quality prospects.

The only way Jersey does this, is if they have a good prospect coming back with the 1st. like the 20th and Rinzel for the 10th or something like that

If roles were reversed I’d agree with you.

That is a big no. I at least used the website/chart the GMs use in quantifying a draft pick and it came out nearly exact meaning this trade is even as it is. I’m not replacing the #33OA with a high end prospect in Rinzel. Rinzel was picked #25 and he’s looking like a steal with top 4 potential.

Not only this...but the value in a pick calculator is 34.2 for the 10th overall....meanwhile for the 20th and 35th overall COMBINED is less than 28....it's not even close.

Appreciate the source I’ll check it out. The source I used gave 10OA a 354.44, 20OA 227.56 and 33OA 126.90. That adds up to 354.46. Almost identical. That’s why I pursued this. FYI.

Yeah, as was mentioned above, this doesn't make any sense for the Devils. They don't need to stock up on quantity like a rebuild, if anything this should be like when TB had an off year and drafted early and add to the core.

Or trade back slightly in a case like Gustavsson from MINN and get someone at 13.

Got it. Appreciate the insight! Good luck at draft. I am rooting for the devils. Exciting young team. You love to see it.

But where I’m coming from is all of your top picks and good prospects are entering the NHL or have been in NHL now. You traded Shakir M and 2023 1st to SJS. So the prospect pool has become thinner. The NHL team loaded IMO and this provides you with 2 picks to get first round talent instead of 1 pick at 10 and then waiting until mid 3rd round to pick 75th. You’d be getting quality players at 20 and 33. 33 is still nearly a first round pick and as you know teams begin to reach in the 20s dropping 1st round talent into 2nd round. Example: Andrew Cristall.

It also helps as your team continues to be a solid NHL team for hopefully a decade you’ll still need to refresh the lineup. Having 2 players who can be impactful NHLers along the way is beneficial for cap reasons and team reasons.

I don’t think this is as clear cut a no as folks seem to suggest.

I would love this, but I think NJD would prefer roster help… and the hawks don’t have the assets for that.
