Your timetable is slightly off per the thread title - by the time July rolls around, the 2024 CBJ 1st will have already been used. Make it the 2025 1st instead and that would be tempting to consider, although I'd want some assurance that he'd be willing to extend here at a non-insane rate.

Yea, the 2025 pick was supposed to be added, not this year's 1st.

Interesting idea to target Colombus' guys for a Marner trade. If buddy can't handle the lights he'll definitely be left alone out there. Not sure I like going from one guy with a flimsy mental to another with Laine. Toronto media would slaughter the guy on week two and he'd go back to playing Fortnite on LTIR. Provorov is also absolutely not the answer to our defensive problems, has barely been a top-4 guy for the past few years.

Solid FA signings, not sure about relying on Tanev through his 34-36 year-old seasons for our crunch time Matthews window.

Everything you hate about Marner is about a thousand times worth with Laine. And the bigot Provorov will never come to TO

Sharks decline. We have two guys in Bordeleau and Gushchin who are similar enough to Robertson.

I want to see Laine and Matthews on the same line. Two snipers. Could be absolutely deadly. So far Matthews has played mostly with playmakers and grinders. His assists and points will go up if you put an elite sniper beside him.

Forget Provorov and the retention and the Leafs like it better. That's 7.5m to make the roster better. Why do so many think Minten, Niemela, and Webber are NL ready in October?

Sink or swim time for these prospects. Who knew Benoit would be so good or that McMann is a 20 goal guy?

And I like Provorov because he can move the puck like an elite defenceman and he only costs 4 million. Who in free agency can offer that at that price? No one.

Laine would fold in the TO media and is a lazy player. You are just lost

Laine is like Nylander. They're lazy players, but cool customers, they can put the puck in the net. Laine and Matthews on the same PP would be fun to see. I think if the Leafs trade Marner they have to get an elite winger back.

Yean Provo at 4.25m is good, but you also have Marner retained. For that 7.5m you can two NHL Dmen and not have Niemela and Webber Leafs in 24/25. And really the Minten as a Leafs in October is really just too much wishful thinking

I think the Leafs will get a better return if they retain on Marner's contract. Besides, I don't like this year's free agency class all that much. I don't want Treliving locking up mediocre players at insane prices. Leafs should really be aggressive in free agency in 2025 when Tavares comes off the books.

Matthews doesn't need Laine.

He'll score whoever he plays with.

Well during the regular season anyway.

But to get that Hart and Art Ross his assists have to go up. He's an underrated playmaker. He makes plays all over the ice but he's never played with finishers. Hyman, Bertuzzi, Marner, Domi, none of them have a deadly shot. None of them were finishers. Pairing a sniper with him has never been done, because it sounds counter intuitive, but I think he will become an even greater offensive force. A player as talented as him shouldn't only have 11 PP assists, which ranks 72nd in the league. Kucherov, MacKinnon and McDavid finished in the top 3. Matthews should at least be top 10 or top 20.

No, Laine is not like Nylander. You really just think everyone not in TO is better than TO guys. Grass is Greener it's ridiculous

We might be able to live with it without the retention on Marner, given it only lasts for the one year. The bigger concern we'd have down here is his subsequent extension - the rate and/or his willingness.
