I'd agree you guys need impact forwards if you're looking to make the playoffs again but you also have a bottom 10 prospect pool that's only saved from being bottom 4 because of Leonard.
This is more of a quantity to move up idea, restock your cupboard for the future thing
No, the caps need premium prospects. They're going to do the same thing they do every year - they'll draft the guy that dropped way further than he should have, and then everyone will say "this guy should've gone top 5 / top 10" like they did with Miroshnichenko, McMichael, etc... I'd hardly call it a bottom 4 prospect pool without Leonard, that's just you not knowing who the caps have...
Between Leonard, Miroshnichenko, Suzdalev, Cristall, Chesley, Iorio, Stevenson, etc., they have plenty of quantity. The NHL team is also full of recently graduated prospects like Lapierre, McMichael, Protas, Alexyev, and there's probably another couple I'm not thinking about. They need premium top talent and they need guys who can make an impact now. A 2025 1st that will honestly probably be a lower pick than their 2024 1st is the least appetizing return for the 17th pick in this draft. Attaching a mid prospect or a veteran roster player doesn't do anything for the caps. If they're moving a first, it's going to be to move up in the draft or to acquire a young top 6/9 forward.
