Yeah I'm pretty sure there is zero potential for power to be on the leafs roster next year.

Its definitely a bit out of reach but I don't think its impossible. Buffalo already have Dahlin as there #1 defenceman for the next several years and also have another young potential top LD in Byram. Also, Buffalo getting Marner could pair him up with Thompson, which I think would be really lethal for them and potentially move them into the playoffs within the next couple years. I think its a win for both sides.

Welcome to CapFriendly. Sometimes, it's not too friendly (and sometimes, you have to deal with @$$holes).

This would be true if Marner had five or more years left on his contract. But he doesn't. There's no assurance that he will re-sign with Buffalo even if he waives his NMC to go there for one season.

Time (i.e., term) has a value. You won't get Power for seven seasons unless you give the Sabres a similar value. @Greysuits is right -- there's zero potential for Owen Power to be on the Leafs roster next year unless you want to imagine an extension being in place, which is piling speculation on top of projection.

I agree with that. This could only happen if Marner would want to go their and sign an extension. Without that there is zero potential this actually happens.

I think it's pretty conceivable that if a Marner trade were to ever happen, a contract would be in place. Marner would have to feel comfortable enough to waive his NMC for that team, so presumably, he would be at least open to a long-term extension upon trade. And considering that pretty much every Marner trade has diminished in value due to his UFA status, I think you can also assume the Leafs would rather keep him if there is not a confirmed extension prior to the trade. Truthfully, the most unrealistic part of this trade is that it is interdivisional.

I don't see it from a $$$ point of view....I don't think Adams would want to paint himself in a corner like Toronto has. I doubt Marner is going to want to take a cut to sign an extension. You also have to add in the fact the Sabres still have Skinner for 3 more yrs at 9Mil. Just not a move I see Adams making. JMO

Yeah, I agree. Agents talk to other teams, if the Sabres wanted to throw 12m long term at marner, maybe he says yes. Where it gets tricky is- other gms watched the playoffs. That means they saw a guy they would be committing huge money to, disappear in the playoffs. And it's not like the Sabres (or any other team) can really play hard ball, after paying a premium to acquire him. I think Skinner is gone, but the million dollar question is "how much will it cost to do it?". I'm open to talking about power for Tkachuk, or Elias pettersson, or something like that- a forward who adds something that the team is sorely missing. I would say right shot d too, but honestly nothing reasonable is coming to mind. Power for marner isn't gonna go.
