That'll get Markstrom but if you want Andersson too you'll have to add to that. Ottawa probably declines anyhow if all they get for 7th OA is 1 year of soft overpaid Marner. An early 2nd and a late 3rd don't change the value equation nearly enough to matter.

It's a moot point, Samsonov is a UFA-to-be anyway and doesn't need to be traded for. His presence in this deal doesn't mean a thing when it comes to evaluating it. It becomes Markstrom (50% retention), Andersson and a 2025 2nd for 7th OA 2024 and a 5th. Doesn't cut it.

If it was just Markstrom and Andersson leaving, no retention, it would be tempting to get another top 10 pick, Alberta boy Carter Yakemchuk may just be available at 7th, another right shot D to go along with Hunter B in the prospect pool. But I'd want something a little more than a 5th rounder in addition to that.

Yup UFA Samsonov doesn't add or subtract any value.

Tempting but not enough, especially not with 50% retention on Markstrom for 2 years. With a little luck plus some poor scouting by teams picking before us 7th + 10th might be enough to get both Iginla and Yakemchuk.
