First of all, I think that PLD will rebound, he always has a first bad year. That said, even if he's back to form he would entrench the Flames in the mushy middle.

Moreover the Kings would be sending us assets with PLD.

Based on the season end interviews I fully expect Zary to play as a sheltered 3C next year. Unless the Flames sign one of Duchene, or Henrique on a short term(< 3 years) contract.

Yeah it's high risk, probably not much reward though.

He can demand all the trades he wants but if he already has a long term contract he does not have nearly the leverage/deadline pressure now that he did over Winnipeg and Columbus. Not to mention that contract is cooking is overall value right now.

Not saying Calgary should do this, but if he wanted to leave Calgary (or anywhere) in two years the only way he could really do so is by requesting a trade and then playing really really well, which would still benefit anyone who buys low now. If he doesn't play well, then everyone is stuck (which is the risk).

As long as he's on this contract, the days of Dubois strong-arming his way onto a different team are over.

That's not high risk/high reward. That's dumb risk/no reward.

PLD is lazy as ****. Investing $19M in PLD/Huberdeau is terrible management.

I sincerely hope not for Calgary's sake.. PLD wasn't happy in WIN, he won't be happy in Calgary.. The only place he actually wanted to play was in MTL, but thanks to Hugues I think they passed on him while most would've liked to have him here.

On another note, PLD may have had a better year in Mtl.. It was the place he wanted to go in the first place. Maybe he wouldn't and would've been another Drouin with a high cap hit..

In other words, let LAK take the hit and hope for them that he comes back from this year.

Deal! Remove the King's 2nd and I'd still take this deal. It solves several problems for Calgary in one fell swoop.

We move Markstrom.
We get a big physical skilled young top 6 center who is locked up long term.
We get a player who could be exactly what Huberdeau needs to get going again.

Put PLD on a line with Huberdeau and Kuzmenko, Sharky or Pospisil and he probably has a career year while Huberdeau gets back to being a PPG player again or at least close.
